  • I read this yesterday and wondering if it is only for College and Uni students, ie. not for high school or below

For WA, it is 56Km. Who is sending kids that far unless you live remotely?

      …that's the point

Barely enough to get the BMW X5 warmed up on the way to cello recitals.

Not a bargain. This is a government allowance.

This should be a PSA in the forums.

its only been around for 30+ years so no harm reposting it.

We are not allow this absolute ****.

      Fair enough (I think?)

Lol: The School Transport Assistance application form is experiencing technical difficulties due to large volumes of traffic. Please try again later.

      Ozbargained!!!

  • Grew up on a farm and my parents claimed this. I'm mid 30s. Been around for ever

  • For QLD is there a list of schools that can get it.

  • It's funny how nobody is ever told about this. Hilarious.

Can it be backdated? I think I read it can only be applied for from the beginning of the school calendar for the year.

    • No backdate but mind you the point:

Minimum distance from home to the nearest transport pick up point (where available)

Which mean there is no bus/ferry/tram/ligth-rail/train stop in the range of your residential address. Unless you're in a rural area, hardly any area in capital city will pass the distance.

      • I drive my son 33km per day to school, and back (66km RT). Long days for me. If I don't qualify, then the powers that be have got rocks in their head.

I have a feeling that the government(s) are going to re-evaluate this now.

    • Hopefully with a solution that stops parents clogging up the roads constantly despite there being multiple good PT options in many cases - mandatory school bus for students outside the zone?

  • This was on 7 News tonight (SE QLD). I'm sure they mentioned parents can claim up to $100 per week in their Ads this week.

I'm sure they did not mention claims anywhere near this level tonight (happy to be corrected, lots of background distractions).

I have claimed this for the past 4 or 5 years on the Gold Coast, to the value of about $450. If you are more than 3.2km from your school, worth looking into. I don't think the distance to bus stop matters. My closest bus stop is less than 3.2km, but are younger kids expected to use that?

The claim form is not the easiest to fill in though, and I can see how people could get confused with it and give up.
