PS4 Backup Help

Hey guys
Selling my PS4 and want to know how do I back it up seeing all my games that I have are on a external hard drive. I can’t put them onto the internal drive as it’s not big enough

I don’t wanna really have to delete them and download them again and I don’t wanna loose my save data too

Thanks

  • If you're selling your PS4 why do you want to keep your games?

If you're getting a Pro or something i would assume you should just be able to plug the old HDD into the new unit and away you go after signing into your PSN.

    • I do wanna keep my games I’m just asking how do I keep them. They all play off the external hard drive which means I can not backup the system in settings as I don’t have an external hard drive to back up the PS4 and external hard drive that’s connected to the PS4

I can’t transfer the games to the internal hard drive as its not big enough

Will plugging the external hard drive into the new PS4 pro work? Kinda feels like it won’t due to piracy etc

        • Not really sorry
I’ll be selling my PS4 now and not getting the PRO until 2 weeks

So the transfer won’t help and I don’t have PSPlus for save data but I can back this up to a small usb stick so all good there

Just wondering about all my games

@Twisty: You're probably better off doing option 3 and getting the PSPlus to assist. It's on special at the moment in the store if you're quick.

I can see why they don't want you to take your external drive and just plug it in on another machine. Anyone could clone that drive and play the games on it otherwise. You'll have to deal with their DRM by doing option 3 if the two machines won't be in the same room at the same time.

            • @David2017: If the two machines are on the same account then maybe the external hard drive would work

PSPlus only helps me with save game data which I can use a 2gb thumb drive

        • hi guys… any recommendation what is the best and probably cost-saving external drive (brand and model) to be used for ps4?

external drive purpose is to use for run games…

also, I have plenty of 2nd HDD naked however I bought USB 3.0 casing and insert the HDD and it seems the ps4 failed to recognise it as USB 3.0 support drive.

any recommendation of how to overcome that issue???

          thanks

  • If you have a HDD already formatted as external storage for your current PS4, then you should be able to plug this into your new pro and it'll be recognised.

I do this between two PS4s, one pro, one normal. My pro has fast internet so I install and patch any games I'm playing, copy into the external HDD, then on my other PS4 with slow internet, I plug in the HDD and move the game onto the internal HDD. The last bit is optional though.

    • Ahh cool so just take my external hard and plug into new PS4 and it will work the same as it does now and I could even copy some of the games off the external to the new PS4s internal drive?

        Correct

        • Thanks

    • There's a minimum size requirement (250GB), but apart from that, should be fine, just need to format it.

      https://support.playstation.com/s/article/PS4-External-HDD-S…

      • always does error code CE-41902-6

the hdd is between 0.5tb to 2tb and it still can be read in ps4 and format to exfat however only to recognise it not usb 3.0.

but the casing that i bought support usb 3.0.

hence i tried another casing thought that casing i bought had issue but the 2nd casing also fail to be recognised.

Now i'm confused… could it be the casing for HDD out there even though claim as usb 3.0 but was not usb 3.0 support?

possible to check whether the hdd casing is usb3.0 or usb2.0 or support both?

        • Tried all the ports on your PS4? Maybe one of your ports isn't working right, or might need a clean.

          • @lordsnipe: try it too and not working… use pc and checked it does read as usb 3.0… so not sure what the issue…

in forum read few tricks such as tape the usb blocking downward 2.0 access…

or rebuild database and retest… however some say rebuild database will deleted dlc… does it true???

            any1 try it before?

            • @thomalfa: The only time I've had to rebuild a database is when the power has gone out and my PS4 has been on .. I haven't noticed any issues with DLC afterwards.
