Car Minor Service

I have just done an oil change and oil filter change on my car as well as topped up fluids for power steering, coolant, brake. my car dash screen has a page where it shows what the expected mileage is for a full tank of gas, prior to having a minor service to my car it would display at the range of 510km to 550km. after the service even on a full tank it shows the amount as 400km to 460km. i drove the car around abit to let it absorb but still wouldn't really change.
is this a normal thing to happen? or would i need to complete a full car service such as fuel filter, spark plugs etc.
any advice is wanted

Did you use the same oil as before?

Check the expected mileage in a couple weeks.

  • I definitely noticed an improvement after changing fuel and air filter in my car.

  • things that you have not done won't be the culprit for the worsened mileage

most likely engine oil , probably last oil was thinner , or different brand/formulation

The expected mileage is probably from your recent driving history and nothing to do with the minor service performed.

    • This. If you have done recent shirt little trips or a bit of throttle, the guestimate of mileage will be affected. No relation to service.

  • Seems odd. Probably just a coincidence. How many tanks has it changed the range for? If it’s just one, maybe it didn’t fill properly. If it’s several, check how many litres you are putting in vs kms as well, it could help narrow down the issue.

  • It is an estimate. Probably how the fuel sits at an angle in your tank

Did you disconnect the battery causing the trip computer to reset?

Stop driving around the block and go out on a freeway.

You are reading the mileage information on your car incorrectly!
Changiing oil and oil filter and topping up fluids makes no difference to mileage whatsover

You only need to change spark plugs if they are not firing properly but taking them out and cleaning them once a year is good preventative maintenance. But again wont improve mileage unless they were badly worn, incorrectly gapped or werent firing properly.
In fact spark plugs only need to be changed every 50-60,000km and some types over 100,000km

Changing air filter once a year (every 15-20,000km) is always a good idea and can definitely improve mileage 5-10%

Fuel filter change only necesary every 2 to 5 years (50-100,000km)
You will know because car will give indications of starving for fuel

The only thing that really affects mileage so much is driving conditions. i.e driving in traffic vs general urban driving vs freeway or country driving

So IGNORE what your car is saying.
    Its only reflecting DRIVING CONDITIONS!

  • It happens with dealer services too..
My range was 100km when I hit the freeway and 250km at the off ramp
can't workout why that fuel usage thing keeps going up and down either, something must be stuck..
