Where to List A One-Off Keith Urban Record Album for Sale?

Hi All,

Just hoping for a bit of advice. I have a friend who owns an original and mint condish/never played demo tape from an Aussie country music star, from back before he ever became famous, that he used to shop himself to record companies hoping to get a recording deal. It must have worked, as he's a huge global star now. Anyway, it's got 4 songs on it that are rare recordings and hopefully of interest to a collector, as it must be a very rare item now. How would you guys go about finding the right audience for it, other than a random Ebay listing? It doesn't have any barcoding or anything, as it's just his independent, self-funded demo tape recording he churned out back in the day.

Thanks. UQ

    Keith Urban?

If It is, I know I would buy it…

    • Yes.. It's Keithy-boy. First demo tape recording he ever made and funded himself in one of our local recording studios, in an attempt to go out and shop around for a record deal. The album's called "Lookin' For A Deal!", as a matter of fact! Recorded back in 1989, it has four songs, one of which hasn't been released, so no-one's heard that one. It's pretty cool item - presumably a very big deal for a hardcore Keith memorabilia collector somewhere!

I'd just go ebay for the global audience. It might take a while to sell but if there is a large fan base someone will spot it, mention it on a forum, bam. Sold.

Add your selling fees to the desired price and that is your listing price / auction start price.

    • Yes, I did consider Ebay for that global audience benefit, but I figured scammers would be all over it. Am I right in saying that's one of Ebay's biggest issues with high-priced items? Not sure what the scammers do, but I know they're WAY smarter (or at least less gullible) than me.

Who is it? Discogs is where you should list it. I sold a rare country record there recently. It may not be that rare all depending but good luck.

    • Keith Urban. One of only a dozen or so recordings that he self-funded, back in the day. He gave it to me, and I flicked it to my mate - who knew he'd be any good! I've done some stupid things over the years.. this is one of the best! :-D

List it for a silly price on discogs and see what prices you are offered

        • Thanks SirMur, I'll have a look!

Is the artist also famous overseas, like in UK, US?

If yes, also worth checking out auction houses for music memorabilia/vinyl records like Omega Auctions.
It would be the right type of audience. They handle all kinds of memorabilia connected to music artists.

If it's Keith Urban, you can sell it to my Mrs, and basically name your price.

    • Haha.. yes, it's Keith. I doubt there's another one still in existence, as it's just a 1989 cassette tape in it's original case with the album insert/photo etc. A very unique piece for a serious collector, I guess.
