personally, i like to start with a clean slate…

I had the same preference back in the DOS 6.0 / Win 3.1 era. But the process has long since become a nightmare I try to reserve for once every few years.

      • Not that hard or time consuming to re-install Windows 7 and anyone buying an SSD would be stupid not too start with a clean fresh uncluttered copy of Windows 7….

        • A lot of sites recommend installing an OS onto HDD first then clone to SSD to prolong its life.

        • Meh I wouldn't worry, 1 year on and my Corsair Force 60GB is still going strong with heavy usage and I often install/uninstall games depending on what ones I am playing…

My first + for a jv post? Isn't that a sign of the apocalypse?

    • Definitely the way to go. Don't forget installing windows on an SSD will take only a few minutes compared to installing fresh on regular HDD.

  • Brilliant!

    /casually awaits incoming SSD deal/

  • Great! Got sent the serial and product number instantly!

  • Out of curiosity if I have a laptop with only 1 hdd bay how will I go about transferring the image to the ssd? Must I install the SSD into a USB housing thence transfer it across as if it was an external hdd?

    • yes.

  • Meh. Have 9 hours to install it to get it for free. Zero chance of that considering the workday has just begun.

  • thanks.

  • If Windows 7 supports SSD by default, can't you just do a System Image and restore to the new SSD ?

    • Not if the SSD is smaller than your existing drive (which is often the case with SSD's)

      • Thought so, I have a WD Raptor - 72 gig - so when I get an SSD I can as long as it is bigger I can just restore the image.

        Thanks

  • Does it have to be installed today, to have it free?

    • nope.
download it, start the installation process, and then follow the links to get the email with the serials.
but you don't need to continue the installation process.

And use a throw away email address - they want to send you lots and lots of junk.

Last time I signed up for one of Paragon's giveaways I didn't get any spam and still haven't from them (unless they were trying to sell me viagra :S)

        • How do you know they don't sell others your e-mail address?

  • Just in time for upgrading the lappy to SSD

  • Any SSD deals?
