    Glass Type - HARDLEX

I don't know why you got down votes. But I also expected it should have sapphire at $1000 AUD watches (RRP though)

      • +2

Exactly, unreasonable for watches not to have sapphire at this price. Wouldn’t expect earlier 399 Seiko deals to have sapphire but this one, come on rrp 1000

  • I don't know a thing about good watches and am puzzled at the popularity of some designs. But this is actually a nice-looking watch.

  • Case Diameter : 40.5mm
    Case Thickness : 14.5mm
=> Quite thick for this design in my own opinion

    • +2

They listed the wrong spec, 11.8mm for this one.
14.5mm is the one with power reserve complication SSA392.
      Source: I own both.

  • Yes, it’s hardlex. All cocktail presages (ones with box crystals) come with hardlex, while most with curved crystals are sapphire. My guess would be it’s harder/more expensive to produce box sapphire crystal.
FWIW though, box type crystals do wonders in terms of optically reducing case thickness, I have presages with both types of crystal and the cocktail ones wear much thinner despite having the same thickness.
As for being too thick for some, it’s a bit of a given with automatics, unless you’re moving up the price range. Do ignore the RRPs tho, go by their regular sale price. A Mido Baroncelli Heritage comes to mind if you want thin autos (7mm iirc) but they’re around 1.2k+ when on sale.
Otherwise quartz or ecodrive/solar are your best bet.
You do pay a premium for this particular model over regular cocktails, and my guess would be because of the dial work and the extra strap/buckle combo. Retail photos do not do this dial justice, and they’re definitely not your standard cocktail dial in brown. If you can, pop into your local jewelery stores and have a look. Shiels and Angus&Coote carry this one. Or at the very least, have a look of some macros.
It is what it is and I’m sure it’s not for everyone. But everyone seems to love coming in to beat a dead horse everytime a Seiko deal gets posted.

    • This is the first time I've learned about the Mido brand. This watch (Mido Baroncelli Heritage) is a gorgeous watch.
Incidentally, the black version (https://www.jomashop.com/mido-watch-m027-407-16-050-00.html) is currently on sale for $599 USD at Jomashop, and with shipping and GST it converts to about $973 AUD shipped to Australia.

Mido is a Swatch group company. I find those a bit boring looking but you're paying for the fact its 7mm (!!!) and its an ETA swiss movt.

This would be choice if you can stand the styling:

Otherwise I havent seen anything even close to the Orient Polaris if you're after a larger dress watch… ie. 42mm

  • Anybody know if what the difference between this limited edition SRPD36J and the SRPB46J is? Just packaging and an extra strap? Or different piece altogether?

    • +1

Movement and functions is the same but the 36 is a different hand-painted dial. different package with extra strap, serial number out of 8000 stamped. I like this one over the SRPB46 because the dial is nicer.
