Maybe, but it is a very nice price, and if people can have decent success price matching that makes for good availability.
Dick Smith's has it for $1397, also including GST. So my guess is, it should be possible to negotiate an even better price.

correct it is the 60PV250
model number and price in title would be nice.
Nice work!
10% TRS refund when you go overseas? :P :P
sure, just make sure u dont have more than 100ml liquid on ya… lol
+ from me!
might sweat more than 100ml from carrying that across immigration
You sure they didn't play you out?
DSE is selling for $1397. http://dicksmith.com.au/product/GE6642/lg-60-quot-full-high-…
$57 off is no biggie.
Not bad considering the rrp is $1899.
ooppss~~~
They definitely hooked you in with the extended warranty.
Yeah what a sucker!!! /sarcasm
…But considering an average person will earn about $25/Hr, and you will spend more than 5 hours of your time fighting with retailers/LG to get your cheap-ass TV fixed when it kicks the bucket in 18 months.
I think that $140 is well spent (And this is coming from someone who used to work at Harveys…)
Not really. With the ACL, all you need to argue is that a reasonable person would expect a $1300 television to last longer than 1 year. Have the ACCC intervene or just threaten the retailer with action and there's your 3 year warranty.
It's unlikely that a tv from a reputable brand such as LG will conk out so soon. And usually if there is a problem with your system it will occur soon after purchase, not 18 mths later. Oh, and the TV will be worth less than half its cost in 18 months.
My Panasonic conked out after 2 years with the blinking red LED of death, you never know.
Every LG my firm bought has conked out, every Sony they bought at the same time has lived. even some of the Samsungs have outlived the LGs.
You really do pay for what you get.
My LG gave anyone that watched it epilepsy after a few days after 1 year. Had a 3 year warranty though. Took LG a month to replace the screen.
I bought an LG Plasma 5 years ago (back when you were paying $2500 for a 42 inch)
it is still going strong and has never missed a beat, and has been moved homes twice
indeed. most ozbargainers know that extended warranty is generally a worthless con (especially if you do it through the salespeople).
Extended warranty if for the salesperson to recover the "loss" from the cheap price you paid for your goods.
Yeah, it's a load of crap. There's no point posting a deal with extended warranty as some of the costs overflow.
not always true my Ps3 died after about 20 months and my parents Panasonic Plasma died after about 14 months, so sometimes there is a very slim chance you may need extended warranty.
Then how is this a bargain if nobody is going to be able to buy the panel at the cheaper (minus warranty) price?!
The best extended warranty is the one you don't need to pay for, which is called Statutory Warranty.
http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/technology/home-e…
Don’t be tempted to rely on the advice of the salesperson. Our research revealed that sales assistants often give incorrect and at times completely misleading information. Keep in mind that an extended warranty is not actually an extension of the manufacturer’s warranty, as the terms and conditions are different. Better information about statutory warranties is needed at the point of sale to ensure that consumers have all the information they need to make an informed purchase without pressure.
that's why hisense is awesome if you want a not so fancy tv brand name and a great 3 year in home replacement warranty provided by the manufacturer. I dont know why the major brands don't do this. I would totally consider one of the major brands if they stood behind their product.
$1299 at WoW Oxley (Queensland) on the weekend.
Damn this is a really good price. I bought a 58" sammy last year for almost double the price. I know it was a whole year ago but still..it's depressing
LG.
plasmas are going out, with LEDs coming in… so if you got a plasma then theres an obvious loss, but LED? not so much because they have an average higher energy efficiency.
Also if you got one of the new Samsung LED ones, they can play almost everything (movie files) from its own USB PORT!!!! THATS cool :)
It is generally accepted that LG TVs have better media playback via USB than the rest of the flat panel market.
Ok, so you buy your $4000 60" LED and I'll TWO 60" plasmas.
We'll meet in 40 years when my plasmas use the extra $1300 in power you "saved" by buying an LED…
doubt it they will last 40 years
Haha :) Hardly my point… which was that the the power consumption of plasmas these days is that you'll never "save" money by buying a more epxensive LED/LCD/whatever TV that uses less power.
You do realise that you're only paying an extra $20 or so on average (depending on usage) per year if you run a plasma instead of an LED. The price of LED TVs is also incredibly high and their picture quality does not compare to a plasma.
@ozAzn, lol there are actually pros and cons of Plasmas in comparison to LEDS.
The reason why is because they generally have higher Hz. Hz for HDTVs usually is in reference to an LCD HDTV's refresh rate. This is how often/quickly its refreshing (re-drawing) the screen. Basically consumers found out at LCDs are inherently bad with fast moving images. They suffer from motion blur (ghost trails) at 60Hz. So that's when you started to get these TVs with 120Hz or 240Hz. This was the manufacturer's response to the problem. They artificially have the TV draw extra frames (either by double or interpolating) to mask the motion blur. Also, TV size matters. The larger your TV the more likely you'll notice this. But below some sizes you might not see it at all, even with an LCD.
Plasma consume more power and generate more heat than LCDs, they usually get noticeably warm. WHEN you'll break even for the amount you're paying for an LED, depends the TVs that you're comparing and how much TV you watch per day.
Plasma have burn-in, so if you watch the news for hours, and change to something else, you'll see a ghost image from watching the news. But the plasma these days have also been improved in these aspects.
Some of the plasma panels these days have improved and are a little more efficient than they were a few years ago though… I got 2 LCDs at home, they're slimmer and more energy efficient, but the quality and brightness aren't as good compared to a plasma IMO. Depends on each TV i guess…
My TV bench would not be able to handle the sheer weight of this thing :D
I've got a 50" plasma sitting on top of a cardboard box. No joke.
Pictures or it didnt happen
But the box is full of bricks.
I'm not going to open up the box to prove that there are no bricks inside lol.
pix or there's brix! lol. jks, gotta love the man pads - big screen tv and a slew of gaming consoles and peripherals :)
It's going to get some real lovin' these holidays with so many awesome games coming out.
Shameful admittance: a family member of mine had his 46" on a narrow tv "stool" which previously had a 34cm CRT on it. He thought it was absolutely fine and stable. I couldn't handle it so took him to Ikea and bought him a proper unit (albeit a cheapie).
Why the extra 2 years warranty? LG TVs have 3 years standard to start with. 5 years seems overkill.
You can never have enough warranty!!
Not to mention by that time, you'll be able to buy the same TV for the price of the warranty.
LG warranty;
LCD - 3 years.
Plasma - 12 months.
Spend a tiny bit more and get the PS59D550 instead. Better picture quality and a slew of additional features including 3D.
This goes to show its worth doing your research before hitting the shops…
Then again, if you have a phone with internet access you can do it at the store…
Thats what I do, if I see a product advertised as a bargain….
U see loads of 20/30/40% off to check to see the original price was quite high to start with!
Extended warranty has come in handy once for my old Sammy… conked out after 3 years… and after about 3 weeks it was repaired at home…
how big is your living room to watch 60" tv without straining your eyes?
I'm guessing this is the 60PV250? 2D entry-level panel. Not sure that this is suitable for here though… more forum material.
