KB's Prawn Gyoza 1kg $13.60 (Was $22.70) 40% off @ Woolworths

1080

Not as good as the 50% off and seems like they've increased the price from the last deal (previously only $21.30). We love these.

  • I've been buying frozen Crazy Dragon stuff recently. All made in aus with local stuff, and it's pretty good! I paid $10 for 1kg of chicken dumplings.

    • Where do you get those? I'd like to try them.

    • Does "pretty good" = as good as KBs? Because the KBs are pretty excellent!

    • KB's (gyoza and hargow )is actually best of the bunch @ coles/woolies. They aren't stuck together which ive found after trying crazy dragon a few times (cant remember name of the other one i found same issue with as well - pull it out of bag and bunch of dumplings are stuck together you cant pull apart :/ ). Mr Chen's is the other good one. KB's isnt made here.. yeah i know….

      • Where's KB made?

Some of Mr Chens products are from VN..

        • +1

KB is Thailand and China from what i've seen.

          • @incipient: Ah. Not great countries for 🦐s
But out of the bunch I'd eat Thailand
            Cheers

            • @capslock janitor: Haha yeah. Thailand is acceptable. I just found some local options, so have been going with them instead.

              • @incipient: True just saw what you linked above. Will give them a gobble on the next special perhaps

  • Can't go wrong with KB's, been buying them for years.

  • +3

Always try to keep a bag of these suckers in the freezer, such a quick and easy snack. Bang-for-buck these are so damn good. KB's does for gyoza what Dr Oetker does for frozen pizza.

  • I think the MB's Prawn Gyozas are better value. It comes in a pack of 1024.

    • +2

      1024! That's a blood big pack.

      • +9

        1024x768 - XGA Prawn Gyozas

    • +1

      1024 = 1 Kilobytebite !

  • +2

Literally just got these. Cooked 3.

Great size. Tastes great. Look at the ingredient, only a few mineral salts, the rest is good.

Make a soy sauce, fish sauce (2 drops), Tabasco sauce (2 drops) and rice wine vinegar (2 drops) contortion to boot, yummy snack!

    • +8

You cooked 3? All that electricity and a dirty frying pan for 3? At least 12 for me in 1 sitting.

      • +11

        3 bags

      • +3

Alas my noble pursuit of environmental friendliness through economies of scale has lead to the unfortunate expansion of mine waistline.

      • +1

        You cooked 3?

Can't say I've cooked 3, but steaming is easy … yeah, there's a dirty dish, but there's no oil/burnt food to clean up.

      • +1

        3 boxes

      • Steamed 7, had 3 for myself and some green beans lol

    • try sambal, sesame oil and kicap manis next time

  • anyone try cooking these using a cast iron pan? how much oil to use?

    • If you're pan frying actually not much is needed for any dimsum from what I've seen.
Lots of oil would be disastrous if you're going to add water to finish it off by steaming under a lid

    • I only use a no stick pan, I’d hate to have them stuck to the bottom.

      • Cast iron is pretty much non-stick and better for a good crust.

        • Ah ok, I'll give it a go then. Thank you

    • Standard frying pan on medium-to-high heat, a dozen of these, maybe a tablespoon of oil (use sunflower/peanut/rice bran, not olive oil, it burns), toss around and cover with a lid. Leave for maybe two mins (shaking/flipping them a few times). Throw in 1/3 to 1/2 cup of water and cover again for a minute. EAT!

      • +1

One minute is not long enough to cook them

  • -2

Where are these made and where do the ingredients come from?

    • All I know is where it's going and then coming out in its final destination.

  • +1

40% is alright but I'm waiting for 50 which isn't always too far away is it

  • +4

I tried the ALDI version of these and thought it was pretty good and on par to these. IIRC the everyday price for the ALDI ones were about $10 for 750g

    • Second this

      • $/100g ?

        • works out to be about the same price as these on special, but it's just the everyday standard price

    • +2

The last time I tried Aldi's version I didn't like it. Probably the first thing I actually haven't liked at Aldi tbh.

  • +2

Just so as you know, KB is state owned by China now

    • +2
      • Good bot

        • +4

actually it isn't as clear cut. the family who started kb's sold 90% to legend holdings corporation, which was a state owned enterprise but subsequently listed on hk stock exchange (public owned). majority shareholder is chinese academy of sciences, approx 30%. unsure who is on the board and who has power to govern directorships although being listed on hkse, you'd think it can be easily scrutinised.

    • So what

  • +2

It keeps going up in price - they used to be around $10, discounted, not that long ago.

  • +1

Too expensive at >13$ per kilo.
    Need to be under $10.

  • family favourite, chuck them in steamer for 15mins and theyll be ready to go.

  • These are one of those things you can buy at Costco albeit in larger packs, 1.2 Kg from memory? Not bought for a few months but last time their regular price matched the 50% discounted ones at Coles/WW etc when comparing per/kg etc

Very more-ish wherever you get them…

    • Costco don’t sell this brand for their prawn gyoza any more; they switched to a different brand

  • +1

When these first came out, they were $16. I've noticed the price jumps over the last year. I guess companies can get away with anything if they do it slowly enough…

    • all prices will eventually jump, seeing that there
will be 'extra' 1-trillion worth of cash being pumped into the economies.

  • been enjoying these for work from home lunches. Heat bit of oil, slap 4 in a pan, dust with Chinese Five Spice, turn around a bit but get them crispy (beyond what it says on the package), dump some frozen veggies in the pan, add some extra spice/sauce, add just a little water (lots will come from the veggies), lid on and let the liquid boil off. Great lunch.

  • Did you people realize that Woolworth's every week have on average between 550 & 800 HALF price specials. This week there are 710 half price items! I always start with the half price specials when I do a weekly click & collect order!

    • Did you know there's no apostrophe in Woolworths?

    • Based on a quick search from ozbargain, the last time this went 50% off was June last year.

  • Aldi $8, in frozen section.

  • Yeah if I get used to 50% off I struggle to adapt to lesser discount. It has happened with pepsi 24 cans and Palmolive hand wash before.

  • Love these! You can get so many meals from one big bag and I stock up when Coles has them for $8.75 a bag when on special but this hasn't been since January. 😢
