  • There's a lot of comments on the jackets about feathers and fluff coming out. Anyone who has one care to comment?

    • +4

I bought one of these about 6 months ago and the down does come out here and there. I find it a bit of an annoyance but in reality it's not really noticeable or a problem. I'm just a bit picky about that sort of thing.

My issue is, I found the jacket to not be as warm as the sales person thought. Ok when out and about with a coolness in the air but not really good enough if there is a chill.

The other thing is, the sizes are probably on the small side. I would normally get a large but had to go with an extra large or it felt tight around the waist.

    • Macpac halo better? I haven't eard of feathers coming out on the macpac? Same price. Pretty similar spec

      • +1

I have a macpac, feathers do come out of it as well.

        • +1

yeah feathers come out of my Macpac all the time

          • +1

@drezy: Same, down does exit now and then but it is super warm and there seems to be plenty of down

            • @roddo: yep love my macpac halo down, been wearing now for the last 2 winters, super warm and comfy

    • I've had 2. Both rip real easy and fluff comes out.

Also yeah just not that warm. It's like a spring jacket. They have one called an epiq or something that is probably more for colder weather.

  • What's better, this or the Heli Thermore?

    • +1

this has 80% duck down, the Thermore has some kind of down substitute

      • Thermore™ Ecodown™ – bluesign™ approved recycled synthetic fibres with the equivalent warmth of 600 fill power down

  • Is this better than a Uniqlo ultra down jacket?
I am thinking about getting one or the other.

    • The Uniqlo jacket is 640 fill so technically should be warmer. I haven't tried either of them though (I own a Macpac Halo) so maybe someone who owns both can chime in.

      • Thanks for the info.
Current sale brings the price lower than uniqlo, If the quality is similar, i might get kathmandu one.

      • Similar.

        • Thanks😊
I will probably get a Kathmandu one then.
Slight difference in warmth doesn't really bother me cause I live in Brisbane.

This seems fairly expensive for $100.

It's also not a cold weather 0-10C jacket, probably more like 8-15C. You can tell because the baffles are small (in height) which means less down bulk for insulation.

Additionally another thing to watch out for, is the increased amount of sew lines means more areas where wind will (and it does) blow through. If cold wind is your primary concern, this jacket isn't ideal.

    • Probably best to use as a mid layer if very cold and have a wind proof outer.
i.e. ad says: Utilise it as either a mid or outer layer.

  • I prefer the Macpac Uber Light Down Jacket over this one for $10 more. The Macpack jacket has 650 fill power and 90% RDS duck down vs. 600 fill power and 80%RDS duck down for Kathmandu which Makes it more a more fluffy and warmer jacket. More info here on these numbers for those interested.

    • Macpac Fill Poweris 650 while 600 in Kathmandu.
Macpac Fill Weight is 73 g (Size M). no details for Kathmandu.
Macpac Weight is 240 g(Size M) while 372 g for Kathmandu. Could it be because of Kathmandu put extra Fill Weight?

      • Fabric weight also a factor

Does this jacket involve the abuse of animals?

    • +1

Yes. They where made to wear this design… Other animals all made fun of them. Then they decided to make their own nation and go to space. All but 1 wing was left from that accident. The rest became a big roast meal
