Seems a pretty sweet deal considering it's a 3600mhz C16 and running latest award winning Micron E-Die, so should be able to run tighter timings or over clocked to 3866

Found a decent review for this here as it's still pretty new

Crucial Ballistix Gaming Memory, New Crucial Ballistix gaming E-Die or (16GB Kit) DDR4 3600MT/s CL16 Unbuffered DIMM 288pin White, (PC4-19200), DDR4, BL2K8G36C16U4W

Note: crucial says this ram isn't compatible with the tomahawk motherboard but users say it's works fine. Check website before buying.

Pretty sure this is revision E, no definitive info that I can find though apart from a supposed rep commenting on an Amazon Q&A. Also Buildzoid noted that it was a slightly custom PCB which is hopeful.

    • Not sure about this kit but I have the 3000mhz C15 kit overclocked 100% stable @ 3600mhz C16 and it shows up as Micron E-Die.

      • You have the new kit that has the same branding as this one (not Sport)? If so that's good news to hear.

        • I believe it's the sport variant.. maybe this one might be different then

  • What's the height on these?

    • +1

Shows as 39.17mm, so I guess normal height compared to RGB kits

    This or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543380

For a new gaming PC build. Also video editing.
    Probably AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Ryzen 3 3300X.

    • +1

also video editing? get the 3600 + 32gb then.

      if purely gaming 3300x + 16gb 3600mhz ram anyday.

      • Thanks. That makes it simple.

    • Have you picked your graphics card yet?

      • +1

Not yet. Was thinking GTX 1660 Super. Trying to keep this part under $450 if possible.

    • +1

How comfortable are you with overclocking?

The 3300X doesn't matter, 3200mhz will be fine as there's one CCD

With the 3600 there's two so the faster memory will mean you can run the fabric clock higher (default it will match the ram clock) and with parallel workloads on all cores like rendering you'll see a difference in render times.

If that 32gb kit is hynix CMR then you'll probably get 3600mhz out of it.

      • Thanks. Not looking to OC. I’ll probably go the 32GB 3200mhz with the Ryzen 5 3600 to get the grunt and headroom for video editing.

Just need a decent price on the CPU now…

  • I'm looking to upgrade my RAM. Currently running 2x8GB DD4 2400MHz. I have two slots left and plan on adding this Ballistix RAM. Can anyone see any issue running two different types of ram that run at different speeds?

    • +1

you will need to run at the lowest speed (so 2400Mhz), would the Ripjaws be an option from the deal posted on amazon? you'll get 32gig of RAM and not worry about possible incompatability issue's … also what cpu and mobo are we talking about :)

      • Thanks! Yes, happy to look at the Ripjaws. I'm running i7-8700 3.2GHz and an Inspiron 5680.

        • +1

In that case i would definitely check what the maximum RAM allowed is on your Dell, and definitely go with swap rather than mix… then scout online if the ripjaws will be ok in the dell system :) quick search gived me users who have had issues with mixing different brands even if the specs of the ram were the same :)

          • @scud70: Thanks so much. I'll do some more research before pulling the trigger.

  • Thanks for this! I was looking to upgrade from my 16GB 3200s (planning mid term path to gaming/main desktop ITX). Eyeing the Sliger SM580 for the build. ;-)

    • +1

Good luck with your build! Currently eyeing the SM580 as well … Wish they had an Aussie distributor

The AUD is quite strong to the dollar so it might be a good time to get it if you have a 0% transaction credit card. I am currently waiting for the B550 motherboards. I'm currently on x470 and there's no reason to get B450 now. The SM580 is the only ITX case that will accept the beastly MSI GTX 2080 Super Gaming X Trio and still accept 280mm radiator. That thing is so long and wide. Next gen/upgrade I'm sticking with 2 slots/founders/standard dimensions. The good thing is temperature has been excellent.

        • Yeah nice, I heard great things about the Gaming X Trio. I liked the look of the Aorus Xtreme but in the end decided to wait for the 3000 series, so it's good to know that the case allows for a lot of freedom in choice. And I've actually just been looking over the B550s — coming from 6th gen Intel so still deciding which way to go but obviously Ryzen is looking really good.

  • I have the 3000 CL15 kit of these running at 3600 CL16, no issues so far, great ram, this version should be better binned so you can probably push it higher easily.

  • I have the RGB version of this ram and its working great at stock XMP 3600 CL16 on a 3700X MSI B450 Mortar Titanium.

  • Note this is Micron Rev.E (good), not Samsung E-Die (old).

  • This is what i'm getting in CPU-Z on the RGB version of this ram. (same thing apart from some lights)

  • You can save about $30 if you grab the black 3200 ones, there's a good chance you can get 3600 with some tweaking and a little extra voltage.

    • Didn't notice the 3000, it's a few more dollars cheaper and should overclock the same.

  • Will this cause any issues if I mix it with my current Team TForce 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3200MHz?

    • For what cpu? I wouldn't run quad channel on ryzen

      • Rzyen 5 3500X. Why not? I thought more RAM is always a good thing?

        • Technically, it is still dual channels, but 4 DIMMs. Unlike Intel, 4 DIMMs is harder on AMD Ryzen due to the inbuilt memory controller in the CPU.

If you were to mix the two sets, you can forget about DDR4-3600. Also, you will pretty much have to set the command rate to 2T. The inferior set (Team TForce 3200) will restrict how fast you can go. Make sure you memory test thoroughly.

          • @netsurfer: Would you recommend that my only way to upgrade is to buy 16GB x 2 of RAM similar to this eg. 3600mhz?

            • @cosmokram3r: What is your long term intention? Will you later use these on a new systems and run DDR4-3600?

The main issue with mixing with your TForce DDR4-3200 is you will at best only achieve DDR4-3200 with command rate set to 2T. There is a decent chance you may even need to slow down the timings or lower the frequency. Then, there are the DDR4-3000 and DDR4-3200 versions of these Crucial Ballistix RAM modules. At 2 DIMMs, they can easily reach DDR4-3600 (quite overclockable). However, at 4 DIMMs, those RAM modules probably will top out at DDR4-3466 (without voltage bump).

              • @netsurfer: Just to future proof really. My mobo is only rated for DDR4 so I just wanted to max my RAM out to either use on new systems in future unless I move to DDR5.

So you're saying with 2 DIMM's it would be better to go for 2x16GB Crucial Ballistix RAM DDR4-3200 and overclock it to DDR4-3600? or go for some other brand too that does 2x16GB DDR-3600 since it will run more efficiently?

                • @cosmokram3r: Future proof, if you prefer your next system to be DDR4-3600, then go for DDR4-3600 is okay.

Given that your current ones are DDR4-3200, right now, there is no real need to go DDR4-3600 and the DDR4-3200 Crucial Ballistix have overclocking potential (though your current set of DIMMs don't so you still won't be able to overclock).

  • This or this for upgrading existing PC: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543380

upgrading from random mixed pair of shitty 16gb ram

i got an i5 7600k with and asus z270p motherboard

will this fix stuttering and other minor glitches?:

  • ordered 9 June and still hasn't shipped, what gives?

out of the other components that I have purchased with amazon this had the quickest estimated delivery date and was in stock as well.
