Original Post
We are kicking off our biannually charity donations a bit earlier this June. For the End of Financial Year 2020, OzBargain will be donating $16,000 to 4 different charities ($4,000 each) voted by the community. I have selected 30 charity organisations from our Christmas donation suggestions that did not get picked last year.
These are the charities that you can vote for, listed in alphabetical order:
- Allergy & Immunology
- Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
- Australian Animal Rescue
- Australian Conservation Foundation
- Australian Red Cross
- Autism Advisory and Support Service
- Crohn's and Colitis Australia
- Dementia Australia
- Effective Altruism
- Fred Hollows Foundation
- Human Rights Law Centre
- Leukemia Foundation Australia
- Lifeline
- Médecins Sans Frontières Australia
- Make-A-Wish Australia
- Pets of the Homeless Australia
- Port Macquarie Koala Hospital
- Prostate Cancer Foundation
- R U OK?
- Red Frogs Australia
- Royal Flying Doctor Service
- Save The Children
- St Vincent de Paul Society
- Starlight Children's Foundation
- Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation
- The Lost Dog's Home
- The Movember Foundation
- The Smith Family
- UNICEF Australia
- Yellow Ladybugs
This poll will finish next Sunday on 14 June 2020 at 11:59PM. The top 4 most voted charities will receive $4,000 donation each from OzBargain. Here are some rules regarding this poll:
- At most 1 vote per account. Ghost accounts will be penalised as per OzBargain terms of use.
- Votes will be hidden until the poll finishes.
- Top 4 charities will picked, based on the number of votes.
- Users are allowed to change votes before the poll finishes.
2020 has been a difficult year for many in Australia — bush fire, flood, COVID-19 and now our country is in recession. I don't think OzBargain's donation of $16k would be much help to every individual who is in need out there, but I would just like to use this opportunity to remind ozbargainers to be appreciative of what we have, and to be generous towards those who aren't as privileged.
Let the voting begin, and feel free to use this post to discuss this year's donations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What about $10 per unique commenter?! Can I suggest charities to be added to the list?
A: Wait for the Christmas donations in mid-December.
Q: Why isn't <charity organisation> in the list?
A: The list of 30 charities was taken from last Christmas's donation. Your preferred charity might have already received donation in Christmas last year (NSW Rural Fire Service, beyondblue, Cancer Council, RSPCA,
Salvo, Kids With Cancer Foundation), or didn't receive enough votes previously.
Q: But you donated more last EoFY?!
A: Yes, there's a bit of budget adjustment this year.
- Like many other ad-supported business in Australia, we aren't doing too well since the beginning of the pandemic.
- Since we did not manage to run our Easter treasure hunt this year, we are going to run one for EoFY. I plan to increase the prize poll to give more back to the community. More will be announced in a week's time.
This is a fantastic initiative, thanks Scotty! For me, no charity is more important than those that help disadvantaged/orphaned/abused children. They're the most innocent and pure needing our help with their whole lives ahead of them.
