Short men - where do you buy jeans?

I'm a pretty short guy and trying to figure out where I can buy nice jeans. My biggest issue is that lengths are wayyyyy too long on me and even when I tailor them they look silly AF.

Any advice? Doesn't necessarily have to be the cheapest but a decent price never hurt anyone.

if you get skinny leg then you should be able to bunch them up near your shoes.

You can buy Levi's in a 29 length.

    • where would I buy this from being able to select the length?

We got my husbands in Hawaii but we've seen them at Costco. You can order 30" length, both Levi's and Myer online you can select length.

Levis stores at DFO or a factory outlet store. Also I just get skinny jeans and tailor or not. Uniqlo offer free tailoring and are also good.

    • +1 for levis. I remember looking at DJs and Amazon AU where you can select the length (30 inches)

  • Levis.com.au

  • I’m probably length 29 or maybe 28 for jeans, and share the annoyance. Can you choose the skinny jeans and get them hemmed? There are places in Sydney that will do it for $15 (thou I prevail on my spouse).
US places sometimes have full ranges of sizes, but by the time you post them the cost is no benefit.

I see you live in Melb so you're in luck. Check out "Dejour Jeans", they're based in Brunswick.

They measure you up and alter the jeans on the spot. High quality jeans at affordable prices.

I also have a couple of jeans from Jays Jays, skinny jeans are relatively easy to bunch up / fold in

    • Yep I get my Chinos from here but didnt know about their jeans till recently!

Buy really long denim shorts or three-quarter pants?

But to be honest, I am about 180cm and I buy 34/36" waist pants they tend to be a bit on the long side

I have some 3/4 chinos that fit me like normal pants 😔

American Eagle do awesome jeans, and have different lengths (men and women's). Might be a bit pricey while the dollar still sucks though…

I've been getting American Eagle for a while now too, I can't find much in store either because of my short legs. AE have an app, I got them because they are sold as very durable and a flexible. I've had 4 pairs now.

How short are you? Colleague 5'1" buys his pants from the teen section.

    • 5.5 but that aint a bad idea at all!

  • It's normal in America to have different leg lengths. I'm not sure why it hasn't caught on here. Try getting American jeans from Amazon.

We don't even do shoes in half sizes here anymore either. Pretty much going online for 100% of my clothes shopping nowadays which kind of sucks as you never truly know what will fit until you try it on.

  • Girl's stores

10+ years clothing retail experiemce here and yours is certanly not an uncommon problem.

Most brands will offer multiple leg lengths, the most common in Australia are 30, 32 and 34 inch. A lot of Aussie retailers, due to space being at a premium and our relatively small market opt to carry 32, being the "average" and possibly a short or long option.

Best bet is to find something you like the fit of and try to order either direct from the brand or from a retailer who offers a 28 leg.

If you need something on the spot try and get a straight leg style, as shortening it will not affect the fit. If you buy a tapered style you will end up with a wider leg opening than anticipated because of the way the width changes up the leg, hence them looking funny when you've done it in the past.

If you go to a good alterations place they can shorten and taper the leg so you end up with something close to the original fit, but expect to pay for it. It's worth doing on a good pair of jeans or trousers, but if you're buying from uniqlo, jays jays, etc you'll be nearly doubling your cost. Uniqlo are generally pretty good if you go for their slim straight fits and get it done in store.

  • When you get them tailored do you also get them tapered? Sometimes when they just cut 3 or 4 inches off the bottom it leaves the leg openings really wide so you need to get the tailor to taper them
