[PC] Free - Overcooked @ Epic Games

6030

The next freebie from Epic Games.

Overcooked is a chaotic couch co-op cooking game for one to four players. Working as a team, you and your fellow chefs must prepare, cook and serve up a variety of tasty orders before the baying customers storm out in a huff. Sharpen your knives and dust off your chef’s whites, there isn’t mushroom for error and the steaks are high in these crazy kitchens!

NB. The change from Ark to Overcooked appears to be a last minute decision (Source - Dealabs).

This is the Facebook ad for Ark prior to it being pulled.

So the ARK leaks were wrong?

      • +30

This is why deals shouldn't be posted until they've been confirmed.

        • +4

          But the clout ://

        • +4

I'm 50/50 about not posting them.

If I'm planning to buy a game soon, I'd like to know of rumours it might be free next week

      • +8

The number of downvotes there for those naysayers asking for proof!! Wake up call for community!

    • +7

      Yes and no.
The leak caused it to be cancelled/pushed backwards.

      • +19

All those negs from the original post… You've been vindicated!

      • +24

It may be because of this and not so much the leak.

        • +2

+1 for correctly identifying the answer and giving greater visibility to an important issue.

        • +1

+1 for keeping us informed without making stuff up like others

      • but gta was leaked and that wasn't cancelled?

      • Now people should understand this.

      • Source?

      • It def wasn't because of the leak. You are very active on the posting side of things and putting up comments.

Therefore you should acknowledge this post:

The info the post by the site dealbot refers was based on was stolen internal company information which in fact is a criminal offense in France and Germany (where those sites are based).
The leak played a major role as both Epic and Studio Wildcard were not happy. The situation in the US then factored into that.
However, from a PR perspective, what do you think the backlash would have been (due to entitlement which can be seen on many sites complaining about a free game as it is not the game people wanted) if Epic/Studio Wildcard had said "We pulled it because of the stolen internal information and because such info was leaked and because sites refused to take it down even though they knew the info was stolen". Being practical and real the backlash would have been huge. The way they did it was ingenious as that way they can pull it without a backlash and even increase goodwill.
I mean, imagine that was your company, and your company's internal information appears on the internet - I reckon you would not be too happy about both the info being released and the fact that the info was stolen.
Having worked in this area (drawing up software licenses, terms and conditions, contract for distribution and publication of games and software etc.) I can tell you that leaks like that are taken very seriously and can cost the leaker and the company a lot of money.
If you want to reply, please PM as I do unsubscribe to most posts now.

          • @Lysander: You won't see this (and I ain't going to PM you):
            Thank you for your response.
            1) A common theme in your posts has been about posting from legitimate sources.
            2) Despite dealbot's evidence that it wasn't the leak, you are saying that it was the reason

You should cite your post as per your own expectations

Disagree. Found #2 to be too complex, the original was just right to grind out 3 stars on every level

  • +21

Has already been given out free, damn I wanted ARK

      • +10

Lol, imagine if Ozbargain was the cause of the biggest Gaming publisher to change its strategy based on votes.

  • +2

    I think it's an Epic troll :)

  • +19

    Already Owned. booooo

    • I would be very happy if they gave away overcooked 2 instead of repeating 1.

  • +1

Is it confirmed "officially"? otherwise, that spammer who has been dumping those games of "lowest prices ever" everyday would shout loud like crazy again.

    • BL - you are on it my friend. LOL.

  • +1

Can I play this through the Epic Games Launcher on the Mac? I know overcooked wasn't originally made for Mac either

    • Probably not then.
But I guess it would not hurt to try.
Alternatively, would playing via Windows emulation work for you?

    • Its Windows Only on the Epic Launcher.

      • +1

Just curious: does that mean that even if Windows is run on a Mac through emulation, it would not work?

        • +3

That would be Windows. It should work.

          • +1

@This Guy: Thank you for that. Will keep that in mind for when I need it.

  • Ive always played this on switch and ps4 on the tv with friends, how is this with keyboard and mouse?.

    • +4

Plug your controller into the pc and get the same results

    • +3

it was the perfect time to make borderlands free
      it's a looter shooter

    • why was this downvoted?
      ozbargainers, you suck

  • +12

I already owned this on Epic - they've started recycling freebies now :(

    • Yeah. Nothing new to see here. Time to move on.

    • +5

Same, I own this too from the last giveaway. Wish they had OC 2!

    • Same. They gave it away just short of 12 months ago.

  • +4

    Epic disappointment!

  • Nice, I missed this one last time.

  • +3

Overcooked 1 is only local co-op isn't it?

    • +2

      Yes

    • -2

It's pretty easy to setup a VPN these days to play over the internet

      • +4

Using a VPN won't work as it's just local couch co-op, you'll need something like steam remote play or parsec to play together online.

        • I've used parsec, it's great but comes with noticeable lag for the other players that aren't hosting

          • @Chef Freeman: Yeah just tried this from aus to the UK … was not pleasant.
Anyone know any good free online co-op games - simple and fun games for a non-gamer

  • Thanks bought

  • +3

Is this the first time they have repeated a free game?

    • Yeap, this was one of the first few that was free.

    • +2

I think they repeated another game too. But I don't remember.

      • +1

        Celeste I'm pretty sure

  • this was one of the very first free games epic handed out.

  • +1

    OvercARKed looks cool

  • Disappointed for sure, but still grateful.

  • Fun for free. Giving me a heart attack

  • So far this is the only game I've installed and played from epic store. Its totally worth it! I'll get around to the others…

  • It's okay they cancelled the ark. Super grateful they're giving out quality games for FREE. They don't even need to do this at all.

  • Just wondering why I suddenly get refund of my Overcooked purchase from Epic games, but i didn't remember initiated it.
    Nice freebie.

  • Thanks OP

  • Thanks for this OP, not sure why there are so many complaints, it's a free, fun game.

    • +2

its because they already got it from Epic before

  • That's a bit odd, the currency is RUB. Apparently russian ruble

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks EPIC!
