Broome to Kununurra

Hi, will be doing a road trip from Broome to Kununurra (freeway).

Any advice in relation to what to bring?

Do I need to bring a Jerry can or would there be enough of petrol stations along the way.

Any exciting stops on the way?

We have a Kluger AWD.

  • It's 1000km, on tarmac. Only need to refuel once and no need to sleep. (actually refuel when you drop below half, if you are worried)

Take a mobile phone, some food and water.

  • "no need to sleep"

Mega Size Coffee on the way. Have you done the trip?

    • Not that one, but driven that distance many times in a single day, on tarmac.

Did you want to make an actual adventure out of it? You didn't specify that.

      • A few stops would be ok.

  • Wolf creek

  • The road floods every year so it's often not in that great condition, take puncture kits etc. The scenery is spectacular, I would definitely do it over a few days or you will miss all the sights. Stop at El Questro and hike to Emma Gorge, remember your bathers! The road is also packed with grey nomads in caravans so it can be slow moving.

    • vegemite2008 is talking about doing the trip from Broome to Kununurra on the highway you are talking about the Gibb River Rd . El Questro and Emma Gorge are also closed for the entire year as are most other places on the Gibb River Rd.

  • +1

Easy day trip on the highway have done it many times. Or you can break it up with stays at Fitzroy and halls creek. Exciting stops on the way depends if you want to risk going off-road in your Awd.

  • Is there really a freeway up there?

    • No freeway just highway

  • Just an update.

Halls Creek to Kununurra - what a scenic route.

    So many things to see.

Love the wild cattle but have to be careful ha ha ha….

It is the dry season which means that the waterfalls are not flowing but easy access to everything and it is not too hot.

Feel sorry for businesses in Kununurra, not many tourist at all.

Even 'discovered' rock art paintings in the outback. Amazing experience.

    Cheers.
