Best Pen You've Ever Owned

I wasn't sure where to post this….but I have a watch that I'm happy with for the next 5-10 years, and now I feel like I need a pen. Any suggestions on the best pen you've ever owned? It doesn't have to be too fancy, just something writes really well and looks reasonably at home in front of my moleskin notebooks.

Lamy 2000s are pretty cool. Neat material that ages well. I've got the fountain pen version which is nice. Not too expensive too.

The pilot namiki vanishing point fountain pe is one of my favorites. Bit more expensive, but great to write with and is a click pen so no cap to worry about losing. Has the novelty of a fountain pen, with the convenience of a click mechanism.

My favorite fancy pen is the pilot Custom 823 with a soft/flexible nib. Not the most practical pen because I baby it, but unique and super cool ink loading mechanism.

All in all if you want a rollerball or ball point, I'd get a lamy 2000. feels more like a 'forever' pen than a safari. If you want a fountain pen, a pilot vanishing point is what I'd recommend.

    • There are two value options for Pilot VP now as well - Pilot Decimo and Platinum Curidas. Haven't tried either though.

    PENis

  • Fisher Space Pen

  • I really like the Uniball Signo 207s, use them at work and constantly have to get them back from people who use them once and try to keep them.

Also like the Zebra Sarasa Clip 0.7mm. Great Japanese pens, just harder to get. Go to mech pencil, got to be the Pentel P207!

  • Parker Jotter. I click the hell out of it during meetings. So satisfying…

  • All my pens are best pens coz I found them all at work and never bought any

  • For my use, the Cross Click with the SCHMIDT easyFLOW 9000 M refill has been pretty good so far.

  • we had a pen for our chickens - fresh eggs - worked good

but if you want something to WRITE with, my favourite pen is …

I first got one of these in Paris nearly 20 years ago - loved its smooth writing but didn't find them in Australia

now available in Woolies - I have a packet of 10 medium black I bought the other day on special ($4 reduced to $2.80?) for when my current one runs out

I've got boxes of pens - including my ancient Parker 51 fountain pen, and an engraved Parker biro a friend gave me for my birthday - tried heaps including a nice cheap fountain pen ?Lamy I liked that I also got in Paris - but meh on buying hard to find refills

so you can spend money you don't have to buy stuff you don't need to impress people you don't like - or you can buy something that just works - choose … wisely … !

  • Personally I like the noodlers

  • I like the Pilot Vanishing Point as an everyday pen.

Not so much the best pen that I've ever owned as one that is very dear to my heart . My mother bought a Lamy 2000 after she sold her first painting at the age of 13. She went on to become a successful artist, although her art always took second place to her activism. I have vague recollections of being little and watching her in awe, as she furiously scribbled in her notebook with that pen, like a demented woman , trying to capture a fleeting feeling before it was gone forever.

Decades later, she wrote, "people who live deeply have no fear of death" and left that note for me to find. We sold almost all of her belongings and donated the proceeds to causes that were close to her heart. Except for 2 unfinished paintings that my 2 eldest children fell in love with. And that note and that pen.I sometime bring out the pen and give it to my youngest son, who grips it almost like a sword and furiously scribbles away, like the demented child that he is. He always give it back to me for safekeeping. He seems to understand what a great honour it is to use Gammy's pen. Someday, I'll pass it on to him.

  • I use a Lamy Safari. Its nothing flash, but I absolutely love it. Robust construction for everyday use (I prefer to use my favourite stuff rather than have it sit on a shelf looking pretty - but appreciate that others may prefer otherwise). Writes beautifully. Total pleasure to use.

  • Pentel Energel 0.7mm (BL107-C). Sold at officeworks, I think like 7 bucks a pen, but great value for money and excellent performance for uni exam's, mathematical calcs, note taking etc. Finished my last 2 yrs of engineering school using only them. There is a certain stress relief knowing that you are kitted out with high quality pens for an exam.

i love the Artline 200 fineliners but it's not a meeting pen but then I discovered these.
for $20, it does the job

  • How about a Jetstream alpha gel or premier

  • As someone who has used only one pen through 4 years of uni + 1 year of internships I would recommend uniball powertank. It's smooth, relatively cheap (pen costs $5 from Officeworks and 2.5 for refills) and has a thinish tip that makes my writing neat.
