Only the Soniq is a modem router. The other 2 are only wireless routers…

Here is the full list of modem routers that JB Hifi sells:
    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/networking/modem-router/

    Whirlpoolers highly recommend either a TP-Link TD-W8960N or a Billion 7300n, 7700n / 7800n.

These routers are not sold on JB Hifi unfortunately, so you'll have to go to MSY or OzCableGuy.

    • Of that list, the TP-Link for $95..
But as scrimshaw says, none of the JB modems are "recommended".

The Soniq is not something I'd risk buying.
Modems need to be reliable 24/7/365, different chipsets also dramatically vary the speed of your connection. They're worth every second of research and every dollar you can throw at a unit that will be reliable and deliver good speed.

Have you actually used the Soniq ? If not then your comments are worthless and ill-informed. I bought a Soniq CWR150NS ADSL2+ modem/router recently as a backup for my Cisco modem/router and after using it for over a week and tweaking it I can say with confidence that it's a capable and well priced modem/router. It's highly configurable, handles large NAT tables, has an extensive feature set and is quite robust in maintaining line sync. The main thing with cheaper modem/routers like these is to ensure that your phone line has an acceptable SNR and attenuation level as the chipset in these modem/routers is not so forgiving on marginal lines. Other than that the Soniq is a decent buy.

    • i need to spend my jbhifi voucher mate

  • Billion is good.
I can watch TPG IPTV with Billion.

    • The feature you should be looking for IPTV is multicast I believe. Should be standard on most if not all modems these days.

  • Buy a decent modem / switch / fttn modem and you wont need to buy another one again for a while.

    My pick is : http://msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=3579

    Wireless N 300
    Gigabit LAN
Dual WAN (ADSL / Cable / FTTN)

Awesome range, and a solid product. Although pricey @ $158 - I have one of these and it is great.

Otherwise spend your money on something else @ JB

  • Any views on Fritz box routers?

I am looking that them as they claim to do whatever I need them for. FTTH ready, usb, NAS, VoIP. I find them very pricey at this point though.

  • ok. if u got 36.25 left to spend, what is the best item to spend at jb hifi?

    • Was gonna suggest a surge protector, but you can find them cheaper online elsewhere.

    • so far i need modem actually, coz my internet connection wasn't stable, just wondering if the modem related or the isp, coz this modem already with me for 5 years

      • You should check in the Whirlpool forums if you have issues with your connection.

Go there and open up a whinge thread, the reps can assist you.

  • finally i got the solution, went to jb hifi today and purchase another gift card. so i just extend another 1 year :)
