Psychologist Care in Australia - Survey & Discussion

Given the current Covid-19 situation, job losses and general unrest in the world, I've been thinking more about the mental health care provided within Australia.

I'm quite passionate about the space, as I've had my share of issues to tackle in the past and know friends who have dealt with issues. Cost has often been an issue for me (maybe that's just from my ozbargaining nature). I'm aware of government provided benefits under Medicare, but beyond those, it's not that easy to seek help in Australia…or so i think.

I'm exploring the idea of if people would consider the use of online psychology services in Australia if it's cheaper?

If you have ever considered (or used) psychology services before, i would really like you to share your thoughts on the subject.

PLEASE USE THE FOLLOWING LINK FOR SURVEY

All responses are anonymous, and I promise it will take under 2 mins…money back guaranteed! :)
Happy to share the survey results when i have enough replies.

It would be good to see a discussion on this topic too, and your impression of the mental healthcare industry in Australia!

Thank you!

heads up: if you're doing this for a university research, make sure you have the ethics approval first before conducting a survey

It's not. Its a business plan proposal. Gauging demand.

Bias issue in that yeah ofc online psych could work. But on ozb, it better be a deal or youll be negged

      • Yep, full disclosure that is part of it.

Although, i do have a genuine interest in the space, and hate the current stigma around the topic. Hence, just seeing if there would be any interest for combining bargains and mental health.

I think our society is based on the idea that wealth determines your worth as a person which is morally bankrupt. The more money you have the more worthy you are as a person.

Your morals do not matter, which is a recipe for evil, and neither does merit, which explains why Donald Trump is in the White House.

In order to be worthy of friends then most people spend most of their time doing something they either dislike, or hate, called a job.

And if you spend most of your time doing that you are going to have mental health problems.

spend most of their time doing something they either dislike, or hate, called a job.

Human life is full of jobs unless we have some transhumanist revolution. (I'm undecided if that's our best fate). Until that time, if it ever comes, it would be great if social expectations were adjusted to make jobs and wealth less of a concern. We live in a pretty stuffed up system when we are worried about robots taking our jobs - that would have been the utopian dream 50 years ago.

  • There's a EAP provider called Uprise that provides online psychological services

    • Thanks kamen. EAPs are only applicable if your company sponsors them and pays for the service though.

  • Flawed quiz in question 1:

    "Yes - Currently seeing"
    "Yes - No longer need"

Where's the option for "Yes but not currently"?

    • Fair point. I based it on the second option covering that as 'Yes - But no longer require their services'.

Definitely admit i am no pro in survey making, so just left an 'Other' free text option too.
