      • Thanks good to know.

  • +1

good deal if you can use that much data

    • +2

There's a $35/45GB month plan as well, which is currently the cheapest way you can go on a mobile plan with Telstra, unless you're already on an older plan.

      • Does this plan offer free international calls as per Boost plan?

        • No

        • It does offer $1 a minute international calls though.

    • -1

Not everyone (me) has access to Wi-Fi all the time.

  • Im with Aldi which is Telstra network? Will porting work?

    • +3

Aldi should be fine. Only Boost, Belong and Telstra prepaid are generally excluded

  • +1

Goddammit! Bit the bullet during Click Frenzy for the $10 off per month plus extra Cash Rewards offer. Would have preferred the gift card tbh.

  • Good deal - was looking for something cheap for my mum who is on Optus. $35 per month is great.

I'm on Boost, so take I need to port out for 30 days (meaning there won't be enough time)

    • +1

I have a feeling if you ported to someone else now and then went straight in you would be fine. Not sure they can see whether you have recently cancelled a Boost contract

      • If anyone has definitive answer to this, I would also like to know :)

        • Rule is 30 days however have heard that JB can choose to ignore it/not check the criteria if they are desperate for a commission.

          • @shaughan12: Boost port in never been a problem for me within 30 days. I just register as a new user with a different email address and works fine.

            • @Tiggrrrrr: Isnt boost specifically excluded from this deal?

              • @shaughan12: Aren't they talking about porting from Boost to another carrier then into Telstra?
So what does it matter if Boost is excluded? Use a different email and contact details if you are worried about issues with Boost. I just changed 2 services from Boost to Telstra (via Kogan) and no issues.

  • +1

Time to get a Galaxy Z Flip, thanks.

  • Dammit I just signed up last week

  • +2

They still have the Oppo Reno 5G for $599? That would work out well.

  • +4

Just FYI for anyone thinking of signing up online.

I signed up for the $45 JBHIFI Telstra deal on a 12th month contract around 1 month ago and still have not been able to connect. Numerous calls and emails later and JBHIFI and Telstra putting the blame on each other. Telstra said they are not aware of the deal i signed up for and don’t offer it, and JBHIFI saying they never offer online contract signups even though i signed up using the link on their website.

Yes i understand we are in a pandemic so there will be slight delays, but this whole process has been extremely frustrating

    • +2

Unfortunately, it’s probably a porting issue and not related to the deal itself. Not that it is any less frustrating, but it’s what happens. Telstra will claim they don’t know anything, your current provider will do the same, and until you rectify the issue it will be an endless loop. Often the ports get “rejected” if your details don’t match the current plan, and the current provider sees Telstra’s request “doesn’t match their system.” For instance, Kogan mobile routinely seems to enter in the customer DOB incorrectly. Last time it happened to me, and Telstra decided to “close the ticket” by saying “we’ve decided your credit check wasn’t good enough, and have terminated the account! Is there anything else I can help you with today?” Oh no thank you, that’s perfect, just terminate, totally what I asked for! I had to involve the ombudsman and it was over a month to finish the port. JB held onto my gift card the whole time.

  • Do these plans get 5G service?

    • +1

      Yes they do!

      • +2

Or will it end after June 2020? Because Telstra’s own sign up page says free trial 5g will end at the end of June 2020 for $60 and below.

        • Like normal Telstra plans it is for review after June 30.

It may remain as free or there will be the optional additional cost for 5G.

    • All new Telstra plans come with free trail of 5g network when you sign up (upg, port in or new connection).

I can confirm this as I was working for them processing backlog of online orders.

      • That's interesting. I'm 6 months into my current jb telstra deal, and I contacted telstra to see if I could upgrade to 5g and they said no.

Will see what the options are come September

        • If you are on any Telstra JB plan then you already have access to 5G now provided you have a 5G phone and are in an area where 5G has been rolled out.

          • @DriedMangoSchoolBus: Wow serious? I better turn it on next time I'm in the city… Got my phone during corona and port Melbourne has no coverage for 5g…

  • +2

    So $55 x 12 - $400 = $260

About $22 a month for 80gb of data. Not bad.

    • +5

You can’t pay phone bill with Gift Card. If you want to convert $400 GC then you have to sell it and no way you will sell it for same amount of credit (ie $400 GC you can sell for $350 if you lucky)

Just cant understand why people still thinking $400 GC is the same amount of money that you can deduct to your phone bill.

      Be smart people!

      • +5

Can easily sell at 10% off

      • +4

Say I intended to buy something from JB anyway? So if I use that $400 GC, I am technically saving $400. So with that $400 saved I will deduct it from the $660 I would have spent on the plan. I only want telstra as I am in a location that only has telstra coverage. Hmm, is this logic right?

Or, could I think of it as a $400 loan and I’m paying the monthly invoice as “monthly instalments”

        Forgive my 2:30 am logic.

      • If you plan to buy something from JB then it's a great deal.
If you plan to buy an electronic device that you can get cheaper elsewhere but compromise and get it from JB due to this gift card then you are diluting the value of this deal.
I need a new phone and am willing to spend around $400 on one.
Currently JB doesn't have anything in that range I see as great value so for me it's a gamble. Do I take out this deal and hope JB has a great deal on a midrange phone that I like?
Gift cards burn holes in pockets aswell.

      • It works out well if you get an annual reimbursement from work, or use it as a tax deduction. It is advertised in June and they're for 12 months - it's targeted.

    • +1

Still a rip off imo. Amaysim has much better value at $30pm. Plus they give out double data all the time. I currently have 86GB of data that expires tomorrow. Plus they have international calls. Month to month. This is no deal for me.

      • i don't like the name of that company. "Amaysim" sound stupid

      • Plus these jbhifi plans still have the archaic extra data charges instead of lowering your bandwidth and giving you free data.

  • +1

Why Telstra doesn’t give international calls to JB plan?

    • +1

Why would they? The JB plans are typically $4 cheaper (eg $65 vs $69), you can’t have it all.

    • Even the plans on Telstra website don’t have international calls, you have to subscribe for extra $10/month

    • It's treated as a extra services unless you sign up directly with Telstra.

  • If I'm currently a Telstra customer is there any way of taking advantage of this deal?

    • +2

Unfortunately No, unless you have another number with a different carrier ( excluding Boost & Belong )

that you can Port into Telstra or start a New Telstra number/service.

    • +1

Telstra allows you to 1. port in from a prepaid number 2. port in from other providers.
Your best bet would be to buy a $2 optus sim and port it in to telstra. But you could always try switch your current telstra number to prepaid and then port in to a post paid plan. When I say try it is possible and has been done before but it doesnt mean it wont be a pain in the ass at times.

      • Firejack is correct. I did this exactly this last time. Got a new SIM from Optus, went to JB Hifi and ported across to Telstra. Got home, jumped online to Telstra and had them transfer the new contract across. Basically your old number takes transfer of ownership across. I looked at this last time on the telstra site:
        https://www.telstra.com.au/support/account-payment/give-owne…

        • Once you port the Optus number to Telstra when you bring it into your Telstra account does your existing Telstra number pick up the offer being given here and you someehow cancel the new number that you'd ported. Effectively ending up with your existing Telstra phone number but now with the new deal?

      • They clearly say. offer not valid for existing Telstra customers….

  • Can anyone explain what is this $10 credit and how can we use it and for what?

    • +4

      For e.g.

Its normally a $65 per month plan, but if you sign up now during this special a $10 credit is automatically applied to the bill every month making it $55.

      • +1

        Thanks👍

  • +3

Having a hard time deciding whether to activate my Circles.life $28 for 100gb SIM or to take up this offer and the $400 giftcard instead.

The Telstra offer works out cheaper if you need to buy something at JB. I'd probably put it towards a TV or tablet which I don't really need but would be nice to have.

Tough decisions with so many good telco deals lately.

    • +1

Look at Circles.Life reviews on OZB and via Google - you may find that decision isn't so hard after all…

      • +1

I've mostly seen criticism of circles charging customers once they've ported out to another carrier. I can avoid that by turning off automatic debits before I decide to leave so that's not an issue.

As for their network coverage, I live in the suburbs so shouldn't have problems with coverage from either provider. Optus coverage map shows good reception around where I live and I've seen good reviews of their 4g speeds.

        Am I missing something?

        • I got a nice hamper from them, but since moving to SE Melbourne, Circles.life service has been quite poor. Not that it's really mattered, since I've been stuck inside with guaranteed WiFi lately, but I've been waiting for a deal like this to jump out.

    • I just changed back to Telstra from Circles.

Was with Circles for the last 6 months and personally had a lot more internet dropouts and noticeably worse call quality compared with Telstra. Main factor in why I wanted to switch back to Telstra.

      Still, they are cheap…

    • Had zero issues with circles it's way cheaper than this deal even with the $700 voucher

      • Perfect. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  • Am currently on telstra and need a new phone.
How long are these deals likely to be available for?
I’d happily port out for a few weeks if I could get $700 off my phone.

  • Sweet. My 3 months Kogan sim runs out the week after. Might as well make use of this.

  • If I am currently on Boost am I still eligible for the $10 monthly credit? Is it just the gift card that is ineligible to current Boost and Belong customers?

    • +1

      Boost customer = no dice

  • Up front for galaxy s10 5g $499,is that a good deal?

    • very good deal, I just bought my s10 plus from Samsung Educational page for $795 thinking it was the cheapest. Considering I'm paying 25$ a month for phone call with 15Gb. Meaning $499 + 12 month * (55 - $25 phone usage) = $860 <= this is decent for this phone as it has bigger screen, better battery, extra camera for live blur in Video and 5G.

      • Dont forget if you opt for a gift card instead you will receive a 400 dollar card. You can easily get $350 on gumtree or marketpkace for this. In effect you are paying 850 for the phone. Not bad but not ss good as the 795 education price.

    • Do you mean s10+?
      I can't see anywhere that s10 5g would end up being 499?

      • I am wondering too, even S10+ would ended up being $599, could it be a separate s10 5g deal ?

      • Just confirmed with JB, the S10 5G deal is valid. I think this is a decent deal.

  • +2

In my area optus network is just as better. I know it cause I just ported from telstra to Optus taking advantage of the similar deal from Harvey Norman. But it has a Bonus Beats headset worth $299. I sold the headset on gumtree for $270. Me personally think, Harvey Norman + Optus deal is better

    • +1

Been with Vodafone, Telstra and currently on Optus. Ported to Optus to take advantage of an eBay voucher bonus they had almost 12 months ago and for me Optus has by far had the worst coverage. Never again. Although I do understand location is a factor.

  • Where does it say the $45 plan includes $10 credit a month to bring it down to $35? The conditions say min cost $540, which is $45 per month, not $35.

    • Its an instore only promo ending June 13th. Isnt advertised online and is advertised in store only.

      • After 12 months, will the monthly bill go back to $45? And the bonus 30gb, still applies?

Or will I have to pay $45 for 15gb of data after the 12 month contract period is up?

        • +5

The data wont change but it will go back to $45 after 12 months.

But at that point you are a free agent and can hop around again for the best deal!

      • Such bullshit that this gets introduced now…Ugh!

      • I went to my local JBHIFI and they said the $10 credit didn't apply to this deal. It is $45 over 12 months. I'm hoping the local JBHIFI is wrong. Can anyone confirm it at their local JBHIFI ?

  • If I get a new number with this deal, am i eligible if I'm under Boost?

  • Hey all, I am new to Ozbargain so please be kind. I am thinking about getting a new phone and was wondering how these sort of deals work. I am currently on an Optus sim only plan and have around a few months left before the contract finishes. My main queries/concerns are:
What are the steps for porting my phone number over or is it handled by JB/service provider?
Since I haven't technically finished my contract, will I have to pay the remainder if I decide to port in my current number?
Is there any difference between this JB deal and the one the good guys put up? Is one better than the other?
Between the $400 gift card pack and the $700 credit pack, which one is more value?
If it helps, I plan to get the latest Note as my next purchase unless someone can provide me a better alternative due to current deals with certain brands as of current. Thanks in advance

    • +2

Everything is handled by JB. Within 20mins you'll generally walk out with an already working Telstra sim and your previous provider disconnected.

You would have an ETC from your previous provider if in contract.

Same deal as Good Guys but JB seem far more efficient and knowledgeable at setting it up without issues.

If you cant see yourself leaving Telstra in 24 months then the $700 is a no brainer!

      • +1

Alright cool, thanks for the info. Just double checking it is just a two year contract? Because they say minimum 24 months, don't want them to trap me with 3 years sneakily haha. and the $700 credit is for future purchases? or can I use it on the new phone I would be getting

        • +1

Definitely just 2 years! After that youre a free agent!

The $700 credit deal HAS to be used on the new phone you are getting.

    • The Telstra rep at the JB Store will complete the Porting for you (go on a weekday as Porting is quicker during business days, can be instantaneous).

You will incur an Early Termination charge if you have not completed your Sim Plan with Optus, you can check the ETC fee in the myoptus app.

JB currently have the Note 10+ 256GB DS advertised at $1299 so if you go with the $700 GC option, that will take it down to $599, however you will be locked onto a 24 month $65 contract.

If you go with the $400 GC option you can get the Note 10+ 256GB DS for $899 on the $55 plan which is only 12 months.

      • -2

Cool thanks for the info WoodenSpoon, I will just clarify some things with you if you don't mind. So from what I interpret from your message regarding the $700 credit plan, I can use the $700 credit straight away on my new phone plan (doesn't have to be used on a future purchase). So does that mean my average monthly cost if i choose the note 10+ as you mentioned will be $65 + (($1299-700)/12))?

        • The $700 GC is activated and given straight away, so you can use it to purchase the phone at the same time.

The phone would be an outright purchase so you would just pay the $1299-$700 in store as a once off payment.

Then you're just left with the $65/ 24 months for the Sim Only Plan.

          • +2

@WoodenSpoon: Ahhh alright that clears up a lot now. Thanks again WoodenSpoon :)

          • @WoodenSpoon: sorry i need help too
so missus wants a new iphone
thinking of getting the 128GB iphone 11
at $1279 advertised price, are you saying i could
            1. speak to the rep, sign up for a new $65/m plan
            2. use the $700 gift card to pay for the phone, so i will need to pay $579 upfront
            3. cancel the plan on the spot immediately, they would charge me $390 for early termination
            4. net cost to me would be $969 for iphone 11?

if above is true, i should be able to get a JB hifi gift card for 3% off and save another ~$15, bringing my iphone to be ~$954?

            • +3

@aboogee: To get $700 GC, you need to sign up for 24 months. So your Day1 ETC would be $780 (and not 390)

  • it's 80G per month or 60G ? seen like a good deal if it's 80G.

    • 80gb if you sign up during this deal

  • Any idea if you still get the $10 discount when making a new number as opposed to porting in?

Last year when I got on the JB HI FI $65 plus $500 gift card, I just started a new service before terminating my existing, then transferring the number over.

    • The $10 discount also applies to new numbers

    • How does that work? I got on that 65 plan train last time my plan is expiring on 09th june. how can I keep the member and sign up for this?

      • You will have to port out to some other non-Telstra provider and then port back in. However you may have to wait for 30 days to be outside of Telstra network to port back in.
