How to Remove a Corrupted Email from Bigpond?

Just looking for the easy way out, seems as though telstra has sacked half its support staff lately. Anyway, I have a mate who has a corrupted email in his inbox (server side). Thunderbird wont download it and when I login to his webmail account I can see the problem email but it wont let me open or delete or move it. Is calling Telstra support the only way to fix the problem or does someone know a cool trick tat I can use?

  • Try a different client and maybe a different device (like a phone).

  • It looks like bigpond is still accepting connections on unencrypted POP3 port 110. Maybe you can try manually log in with telnet and issuing a DELE command.

  • You can try to connect to your email through IMAP protocol other than POP from your email client such as outlook. Then delete the corrupted email item from the email client which then will remove from the server.

  • Thanks for the replies. Before I got back to my mate he called Telstra and the CSR reset his account as IMAP and in the process deleted all his saved emails and folders. Oh well problem solved I guess. :)

    • Maybe tell him this is a good time to switch to an isp-agnostic email account like gmail. He can auto-forward his bigpond emails during the transition. That way he won't be tied to Bigpond forever.

      • He's in his eighties (or close to it) and I've noticed when most people get to that age, when it comes to dealing with computers they REALLY hate change. If he does change ISP's one day I'll flip to gmail then. Cheers
