Amazon Price Fluctuations - Strange Behavior, Anyone Know Why?

Have a look at this:

https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B075ZZ1RX1

I dont think it was on sale or anything (I bought it when it was like $25), I just needed a magnifying light for the shed and this seemed like worth the punt. It arrived and was pretty good quality.

Went to buy another as I liked it so much and could do with one permanetly mounted in another spot (I have a good size shed) and the price was 10x!.

I looked today out of curiosity and its dropped by half!

Anyone know why they would change this much? Or was I just lucky?

A lot of the sudden fluctuations are due to price matching someone else's sale price. As soon as that smaller company runs out the prices can bounce back.

Yes. If anyone cares at all about not letting one company become dominant and squeeze out everyone else then it's better to buy from whoever had the originally discounted price rather than from Amazon. (True for all price matchers IMO - I'd first buy from those who are proactive with discounts and up-front about prices rather than the vultures who swoop in to destroy the work their competitors.)

  • This happens on a variety of different items. My guess is no one is buying the product so the item is set to drop little by little. When someone buys the item the price will jump back up.

Notably this deal was only active a few minutes. looking at the camelcamelcamel price tracker it was a similar where the price was on a downward trend but then all of a sudden jumped back up which is when someone purchased it.

When it's that high, it usually indicates they've run out of stock
