Red Light Camera Light Flashed, Was I at Fault or The Opposite Guy?

Hi guys. I was crossing an intersection while the light was still yellow. I noticed in the last 2-3 seconds there is another car coming from the opposite direction. Was I at fault ?
I remember looking at my speedometer and I wasnt speeding so this can only be red light.

Dash cam footage, please see here

Edit:thank everyone so much for the comments look like it was for the other driver. It was a close one and yes, I really I should have stopped as well. Will take a lesson from this.

No answers yet? Probably waiting for streamable to load… gonna make some popcorn while I wait…

Edit: after a 20 min wait for streamable to load, it looks like the camera is on the other side of the road… would be helpful to know what road and what intersection this is at and the direction you were going…

Edit 2 (Electric Boogaloo): It's the intersection of North East Road and Ascot Ave, Vale Park, SA and the camera flash was for the other driver as the cameras are located on "the other side of the road…" This bad boy right here

    • hi, sorry for the low quality footage. yes you are correct, that's the intersection between North East Road and Ascot Ave. I was driving on North East Road and Ascot Avenue is on the right hand side of the camera

Edit 3: To all the Goompties already posting in this thread "oP ShOuLd HaVe StOpPeD!!1!!!1!" Let's do some math…

The speed limit on this road is 60km/h. Let's assume OP is at least at or around the speed limit. The lights are amber for 4 seconds. 60km/h is 16.7m/s. When the light turned red, we know there was 4 seconds of travel time in the past. So, it's 16.7 x 4 = 66.8m travelled. Approximately 1 second of this, (or 16.7m) is in the intersection.

This leaves us with 3 seconds outside the intersection. Now, human reaction time is about 0.3~0.5sec to see and think and about 0.7~1.5s to do. Making a total of about 1 to 2.5s reaction. So, Of the light turning amber, we can subtract at least another second for reaction time. So, now we are 2 seconds from the line. This gives us a stopping distance of around 2 seconds, or at 16.7m/s, leaving about 33.4m, IN THE WET, to actually stop…

At a speed of 60km/h, in wet conditions, on a flat road, it would take the average car about 82m from the light tuning amber, to the car actually stopping (this included the reaction time). This would put OP well out the other side of the intersection by the time they actually stopped…

Should all feel ashamed… And the only guy that said anything bout it and someone negged him.

      • Doesn't Amber light last for 3 seconds in a 60km limit road?

Watch the video. I used the time from the video. From 15s it went amber until 19s where it went red. I also backed up my math by using Google maps and the distance OP travelled to make sure it was 4 seconds and I wanted to confirm OP’s speed.

If it was 3 seconds, there would have been even less time for OP to stop. I tired to break it down to the absolute minimum to show that even it OP was at the limit and had fighter pilot/F1 driver reflexes, there was no way in the wet they could have stopped safely.

(And between you, me and the fence post, I actually think OP was exceeding the speed limit by a little. OP's speeds seemed closer to 75km/h than it does to 60…)

  • Its the other guy but you had enough notice to stop in the Amber.

Possibly not safely given the weather, it's easy to skate over the line because of all the oil that gets dropped in front of intersections.

Absolutely not safe to stop in the wet from this distance… Here, have my upvote because "maffs"

    • yes I should have stopped as well…

You don't know what was behind him…

  • +3

As above your good, but next time stop

  • +2

    You should have stopped

BUT this fine is not correct as you crossed while it was amber NOT red

  • +2

Wasn't you that triggered the camera …

  • +4

it was one flash not two. you didnt enter the intersection on red.

  • +3

Seems amber is the new red these days? May as well do away with amber if they are going to be so strict on it.
Op should be in the clear with this one, just the wet road is enough reason to not slam on the brakes.

Likely opposite guy speeding. He also went into the intersection after you. Either way, you had plenty of time. The light didn't turn red until you were almost on the other side.

Wait and see if you get a fine in the mail?

  • +1

Looks like the flash was just before it turned red so does that mean someone was speeding instead?

  • It's stop on amber IF SAFE TO DO SO. It's wet, OP you're fine either way.

The footage is a little choppy? An MS Paint drawing would help a lot.
