Is This eBay Listing for a KitchenAid KSM160 a Scam?

So I was browsing for KitchenAid mixers and came across this - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/184310776632?ul_noapp=true

76 sold and it keeps going every couple of minutes, seems like a new account with no feedback as well, but they’re accepting PayPal so what’s the catch?

I was just curious what their goal would be, PayPal/Ebay will protect anyone who purchases it if he doesn’t deliver and the funds would be locked till he provides tracking anyway.

Since when are funds locked until you provide tracking?

        • locked until you provide tracking?

Yeah @OP, doesn't work like that.

Ebay (or rather PayPal) sometimes locks funds for 3 weeks if you haven't sold anything for a while, this with these accounts.

If tracking has been shown as delivered you can ask to get the funds released early.

It'll be a hacked account, throw a few bogus listings up to lure gullible idiots, 77 sales x $120 is just over $9,200 of revenue. Immediately cash out to a bank account or third party account before eBay/Paypal freeze your account. Paypal balance is now $-9k which isn't even your account, who cares. eBay doesn't take fees till weeks later.

        ~$9k profit made. Rinse. Repeat.

        • It'll be a hacked account,

I've been seeing a few of those, eg: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/264742747015

30-ish feedback as a buyer, all over a year old, a single "too good to be true" priced item…

          • @D C: Yea it’s a common scam. There’s loads of them on eBay. Like selling public Win 10 keys. Generate thousands of dollars and you just email the same key which is available online. By the time they stop working, you’ve cashed out.

            • @Hybroid:

              Yea it’s a common scam

              And people are buying. Sigh.

Had a closer look, both hacked accounts, haven't been used for a few years. One dates from 2005, the other from 2008.

    1. Selling at 20% of next cheapest seller………………………
    2. No feedback as a seller, zero, zip, zilch. All feedback as a purchaser is over 12 months ago.
Confidence in buying from this seller, zero, zip, zilch.

Waste of your time and potentially funding a scammer.

If it seems too good to be true it probably is.

    +1 for a hacked account.

No way can they sell KitchenAid mixers for that price.

  • Yes

  • It’s a scam. Why? It’s too good to be true.

  • Either hacked account or pricing error. Either way, if its too good to be true, it most likely is and you'll just be refunded your money.

  • Guy was hacked

    If you have to ask…..

    • You'll never know!

      • Well in OP's listing, 99 idiots now know, LOL.

  • Good find. Bought a few. Thanks!

  • why do ebay not have a way to report these scams?

    • +2

      You can report listings

      • +2

Sure but 'obvoius scam' isn't one if the options you can select. You get options like copyright infringements and selling restricted items.

  • This listing has ended.
    99 Sold.

PayPal refunds are going to be very busy in a few days.

  • Scam, if anything is too good to be true it usually is a scam. Kitchen Aid mixer has never been cheaper than around $500
