Nikon D3100 - Kogan v JB Hi-Fi

Hi all,
I want to get the above camera and I can get it from above 2 as below:

Kogan - $575 delivered

JB Hi Fi this weekend - $660.

$85 saving.
I know Kogan is apparently "grey import"- should that concern me if I am getting the 5 year extra warranty for $99.

The above prices are 1 yr warranty
The prices are both for single lens kit, which what my friend tells me is enough for me as I am just a beginner.

I am pretty much wondering if anyone has any advice NOT to go with Kogan.

  • Well according to http://ww2.nikon.com.au/warranty.php, only the lens has international warranty.

  • Negotiate with JB Hi Fi, I just picked up a D5100 Twin Lens kit for $996 today using 20% off the HN price ($40 cheaper then JB). Told them HN gave me that offer (which they had last weekend) to counteract the JB deal. Told them I was talking to them as HN didn't have the camera bag I wanted to do a deal. Got the Lowepro slingbag AW120 for $90 (ticket price $125) to match HN offer.

Just walk in there confident and make it known no skin off your nose if they don't want to do it. Haggle with HN first to see how low they will get accessories down to compete with JB this w/e. When I asked JB about another bag, they only wanted to take $6 off it.

So end of the day, $620 for your camera which brings it down to $45 difference which you might be able to wipe that off with some accessories you need. If JB don't want to play the game, go with Kogan - telling JB you'll head back to HN and buy from them.

Don't buy memory cards off them, they are a rip off. I reckon the twin lens kit is the better deal, and you'll be up for $260+ to get a 55-300 lens which is $100 more then buying the kit now.

    • Which JB store did you grt this from?

      • Brisbane, but the above would apply anywhere. HN deal was real BTW. Also the bag wasn't such a great deal, I see officeworks standard price is $96
