Spoiler alert: Jennifer Hudson's singing of "I know where I've been" was so powerful and moving that she had her fellow cast members in tears.

    • Truly a WOW! moment. Very soulful, immediately reminds me of "A Change is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke, covered by many, incl. Aretha Franklin. (BTW I just found Jennifer Hudson's superb version of this HERE as well).

Queen Latifah's movie version of the song is a bit more subdued, which I suppose is not uncommon with a movie adaptation, where they usually dial down the melodrama that goes with live versions.

When Jennifer sings “I know where I’ve been”, I cannot help thinking about the tragedy in her real life, a place most of us will never be, rarer even than the black struggle - the murder of her mother, brother, and 7-year old nephew. And relating to the pain in her voice.

  • I am looking forward to this!

  • i saw a local production of this and i was surprisingly entertained, considering how boring the movie was. good deal

    • lol the movie is better, though the live version is always about an all stars cast.

      • The movie had John travolta. That's top tier in celebrity world.

    • I haven't seen the movie for quite a while, but don't remember it being boring. As I mentioned above, perhaps it is due to the melodramatics being dialed down in a movie adaptation - a very common thing. And perhaps also because songs and the like tend to grow on you with repeated listening and familiarity.

The same goes for Jersey Boys. The live version is great, yet in Clint Eastwood's movie version, the level of exuberance and vitality is just not there. Still good, but just not as.

  • Great for Decedent Fans.

  • Thank you it was great to watch
