New Luxury Car Super deals

Hi,

Heard from few quarters or people talking that there will be some pretty amazing luxury car deals (e.g Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Range Rover Jaguar and the likes) available as the current climate will be biting the luxury car sales quite hard due to lack of business confidence etc.

Does this statement holds any substance to it ? Are there any "amazing" deals available ?

I have never been much of a car guy but now in a position to purchase something really nice, if the price is good and bargain great.

I am more interested in purchasing a SUV type of vehicle, X5 onwards if its BMW, Q5 or Q7 in Audi or similar.

Few years ago, I engaged a Car broker to purchase a Hyundai Santa Fe for my business, it was well worth the effort as they got me a good deal but they are not in business any more. Are there some genuine Car brokers around.

Please advise and guide me towards the right direction.

Also, Please go easy on me. Thanks everyone in advance.

Josh

I think you've heard incorrectly. Unless you mean "luxury" cars like an A class Merc. People with the money to buy actual luxury cars, still have money.

InB4: "HaVe yOu tRiEd JoHn CaDoGaN aNd AuToExPeRt. ThEy ArE tHe BeStEsT!!11!!!1!" coming from people that have never used his service…

There is a dip in the market, but like @brendan says above, it's more on the lower and mid range of the market. The upper end of town will always have the money to buy their 7 Series, Range Rovers and M class, but what may suffer is the A Class, 1 Series and lower tier entry models.

From my recent parlay into the car market, I have found that no one seems to be buying new. This has caused a problem in the market where there is higher demand for used vehicles and/or people are not trading in. The last dealer I went to (a few days ago) basically had used vehicles at near new prices and was trying to push me to buy new. When I asked about a deal on a new car, there was "no room to move" even in ridiculously old stock vehicles. Dealers just figure that when the used stock runs out, people have no option but to buy new.

So, maybe some low to mid tier models will see good discounts, but I dont think you are going to see a high end vehicle for mid tier pricing.

Your definition of amazing is likely to be different from their definition of amazing - you might see some good deals, but they're only good if you're in the market anyway.

I've never found car brokers to be any good - if you're half decent at negotiating you'll get a better deal than they do.

    • I beg to differ.

    • I have to agree about the car brokers. I have enquired about their prices on 3 cars and the deals were between $0 & $300 off for cars between 40-60k…

I have found Ferrari sales person to always be leggy and busty female in a low cut. She'll do okay whatever the economic climate.

        • +4

Im gonna go shop for some Ferrari.

          • +1

@BuyoTheCat: You're not going to shop for anything else?

            • @Julius: Nope. What else would you buy at a car dealership?

    • Does Lexus have a 7-seater option?

Edit: They do and it's ugly. I would take the toyota landcruiser 200 over that any day.

        RX has a 7 seater too - RX450hL, RX350L

Kinda wish we weren't in such an economic pickle/mortgage debt bubble, so i could get a decent deal on a secondhand car right now. If we needed evidence Australian's were running low on money and were over leveraged it doesn't get much clearer than the new car sales. The property market needs to reset in order to free up liquidity so people can buy things again.
Government needs to realise this is the key to jumpstarting the consumerist economy we live in, not throw subsidies at the construction/development industry.

    • I think May results will be interesting. Toyota has been going absolutely gang-busters, but some of the other brands might have felt the pinch. People are likely going for reliability and resale, going the safe options.

I can see Toyota's market share increasing again in the May results

    • sorry they just extended the IO loan

  • Was keen to get a new toy especially with the 150,000 instant asset write-off deduction, but business has been very bad since covid19 hit. New luxury car sales are all the way down as previously posted. Was offered an 2016 audi S8 for $62k a week ago (crazy since it was asking 280 new!) and still wondering if I should've taken a gamble on that - but have owned audis before and they have zero reliability.

    • wow, 62k is crazy… What a shock to the person who purchased for $280 with that sort of depreciation…

Couple of 15/16MY Audi R8 have popped up around me for just under $100k. They were something like $400k+ new. Ouch. A quarter of their value in 4~5 years…

        • -1

Send me a link, im a massive Audi fan and owner and have been following values for most of their models, there's absolutely no way you're finding 2015+ R8s for that money, 08s are still worth around $100k these days

@nicholasfrawley: One has gone, and I just looked at the other, and it was listed for $99,990 about 4 days ago. But it seems now has been edited and the price is $199,990.

I even put it on my watch list because I thought it was too good to be true, but yes, it seems you are right. But they were both between 14~16MY R8 and were listed around $100k. If they were $200k+, I would admire and move on. $100k appealed to me because I could actually afford that…

Glad I checked now, I was going down tomorrow to have a look at the one that’s still listed. Guess I’ll dodge it now it’s doubled in price.

            • @pegaxs: probably the usual price error, leaving out the 1 in front of the price tag lol

              • @cloudy: Mate, I am gutted. I was literally going tomorrow to have a look at it with a view to purchasing it. I’m still going to look, but not buy. I bet some office pleb got their arse kicked over that when the phones melted down And everyone was offering to buy it.

I don’t know if the other one sold or if the listing was taken down for the same reason.

    • Send a link, that seems way too cheap

  • I heard on the radio Jaguar is having a 10% discount on their range (in essence, they're paying the GST as per the wording on their website). Click Here.

Not a super bargain, but then how much do you expect a car to be discounted from their RRP ?
(unless the company is clearing stock, like Infinity)

I personally buy a car when it's around 3-5 year's old, after the largest portion of depreciation has occurred (45-60% of rrp).

    • That's clickbait bullshit. If you aren't getting 50% off on higher end Jags, you're a sucker. They raised their prices considerably a few years ago, just so they could offer ridiculous discounts.

  • +1

Some decent discounts at Lexus too.

    • -6

      He said luxury cars.

  • My son was a salesman for one of the three luxury German brands for a couple of years-very big discounts are available on expensive cars if you have the bravado to offer a take it or leave it approach.
He buys even cheap cars new at amazing discounts for our family.
Hate to say it but some of the comments above are very naive.

  • I look at whole of life costs, including depreciation, which is why buying anything other than a Tesla Model 3 (or soon Y) is a dumb decision.
Tesla just lowered prices a little on the M3.
My 9 month old M3 has actually appreciated in value (although that’s partially due to the exchange rate drop & version being discontinued)

Just bought a very large SUV. Price was about well below retail with a bit of ringing around and haggling. This on a vehicle to order. I could have paid less for available stock I think, and especially a demo. I definitely got the impression that they are desperately keen to sell even though there is good demand for this class of vehicle at the moment as any sale improves their currently dismal numbers.
A relative also picked up an ex lease SUV at a good price.
Wondering if there may be early lease cancellations coming on to the market as middle managers etc have perks rolled back - but I have no experience of this type of perk, so others may have a better informed view.
If you have cash resources, or are confident about salary it is an excellent time to buy if you know what people are getting your model of interest for and are prepared to sign or walk away.
I have to say I quite enjoyed the process.😁

    • saltypete, Can you share more details of this purchase ?

      • +1

Nissan Patrol. Once on the road with some accessories cost is low $70s. If you are keen on Euro may not be your cup of tea, but it has a big V8 and tows and off roads like stink! 😃

        • +2

And no one buys them because petrol 😉 you likely were their only patrol order that month. Just check VFACTS at any given month.

Not the best example to give!

          • +1

@spackbace: Perhaps worth looking at the reviews over the last 12 months. Patrols volume is only about 20% of LC, but has increased month on month over the last 12 months or so. They are not for everyone, but I’m not everyone.

          • @spackbace: I think when the Patrol was released in "petrol only" people went a bit crazy. I live in a rural area and I see close to the same amount of new series 5 Patrol's that I do Landcruisers..

        • +1

          Thanks Buddy for sharing.

    • I am keen to buy same model Patrol Ti. do you mind sharing details of the dealership? and responses from other dealership with respect to prices.

  • If you're still seriously looking for a car broker /buying agent you could try https://georgie.com.au/ . I don't have personal experience of their services but have heard that they're pretty effective.

I am not a big fan of this segment but if I had to buy a luxury SUV it would be either the Porsche Macan or Cayenne.
