Was after a cheap and wide desk and settled on an IKEA linmon plus a couple of trestle legs and the alex shelf. All up $180, cheap for a 1.5m desk. Looks good perfect for gaming rather than overpriced gaming desks. Recommended .

Half the posts on r/battlestations are this, except substituting OP's Linmon for the sturdier Karlby.
WTF is a gaming desk? RGB? +10 FPS?
"Gaming desk" = marketing
I have seen a few setups using Ikea Alex drawers as ends and then getting a Linnmon top.
I would suggest looking at the Ikea Karlby or Rasunda, as these are kitchen benchtops which I feel would be much more stronger.
If price is an issue, the Saljan looks affordable - or you can go to Bunnings and get a benchtop for around the $100'ish mark.
Yup, youtubers have tested the Alex as drawers and the Linmon as a top. I went for a Linmon as it was cheap.
I have a linmon desk with trestles. Tell me how you secure it, I might be able to sell it
Some years ago we made a long wide desk from a 246x63.5m Rasunda benchtop, some table legs, and cable baskets mounted discreetly underneath.
Gave space for my partner's work equipment (long term WFH-er) and my desktop/monitor, without taking up too much space in a smallish study.
Its been a reasonably good setup for a couple to both WFH in iso. The desk isn't as deep as usual, but haven't had an issue (using clamp-style monitor arm probably helps here).
Everything IKEA is rubbish.
Wont last 12 monthsBit of a blanket statement, no? My IKEA table has lasted several years…
My original Billy’s are 10 years old and still going strong!
BRUH… It'll be fine… Don't worry the cardboard infill will with stand at least 36 months….
I used the Bunnings project panels on my Alex setup
2.4m long merbau for 120
There is also acacia and oak variants for 100These are solid wood and just need clear water based coat so you can cut them down to size if need be
