New TV Advice - Budget $500- $600

Hey Everyone.

Basically I'm in the market for a new TV. Currently, living in a small apartment with my girlfriend and we're using a Soniq 48" HD TV from about 5-6 years ago.
The TV has nothing entirely wrong with it, but the picture quality is pretty rough. Playing games on the PS4 is a bit of an eye strain as it's really grainy. We're in the market for a new 4k TV, and looking for a an upgrade in size. Our budget isn't great, but looking at about $500-$600.

I know Kogan has some pretty terrible reviews, but since we're already used to bad picture quality, I feel like anything would be an upgrade haha.
Would anyone have experience with a good budget TV? Any recommendations?

Let me know!

Cheers.

tcl 55p8m? i have one and it seems ok, a step up over the hd tcl 50" we upgraded from, does xbox and 4k fine, android tv is quick enough to use.

yeah i recently came to the same conclusion that was the best option under $600 with local stock (not having to deal with Kogan on warranty) but unfortunately from what i can see, they've discontinued it

      • I'm sure Bing Lee has it, I got it at good guys for $548 delivered to site so you could ring and ask, they may still have one in the warehouse?

  • Within your price budget there really isn't much to go with. You can give this a go but I would highly recommend having a look at it in person first. It's 4K, claims to have HDR but I should warn you that nothing at this price point is going to have good HDR. Still, might be worth looking at for $548, it's 55 inches too:

Claims to have a 9.5ms response time which is good for games, but I've never even heard of this brand so I can't comment on the accuracy. In short, proceed with caution but just based on its specs, it seems good for the price. I did own a Hisense ULED 4K HDR TV at some point and honestly that was pretty good, but it's a few hundred more than your budget. As far as options go though, this one seems to tick all the boxes for a budget TV that's a decent size and with a 4K panel.

  • as @seraphim2017 said TCL any day of the week, bought a c2us ~3 years ago and the interface works like a dream, picture quality is phenomenal, best $800 i ever spent. Obviously 2 years later you're going to have an even better quality tv.

  • Tbh tv deals have died down during the corona virus time, when I say deals i mean proper deals that we used to see that were banggers. Now you just see average prices at best, also the weak aud dollar doesn’t help

  • Soniq and Kogan are total crap these days
JB Hifi has given them the flick they are so bad

    Dont worry.
Your budget gives you a good selection of TVs.
Just depends what size you want.

Check out Facebook Marketplace for some 2nd hand bargains as well

  • I am also in the market for a similar price point. What about JVC TVs? Are they any good? Thanks
