Hyundai i30 Performance N Fastback (MY18 / MY19 Insurance Confusion)

Hey guys,

I have some confusion regarding the year of a car I put a deposit on today, and plan on picking up tomorrow.
It's a Hyundai i30 Performance N Fastback that was advertised as MY19, but when I punch the rego into any insurance website to get a quote, the vehicle is apparently 2018. I read a few other threads over here from people asking a similar question, but unfortunately I wasn't able to completely answer my questions based on those.

If I go ahead with finalising the sale tomorrow, I will have paid $35,000 for a single owner i30 Performance N Fastback with 9,000km on the odometer, which was advertised to me as a 2019 car. I imagine that if this car is in fact a 2018 model, the value will inherently be less than if it were a 2019, no? That said, from the Googling I've done, this car was released in 2019, so I'm even more confused … ugh, my head!

Also, for anyone familiar with this particular car, are there any differences between the i30 Performance N Fastback between 18 and 19 (besides the amount that the dealership is going to try and extract from me)? I haven't been able to find any notable mentions of this online, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Here's hoping someone sees this post given it's already late evening, before I either pick up the car or tell the dealer that I can't go ahead with it due to misleading advertising. What's the bet that it's a 2019 model on the way out of the dealership, and a 2018 model when I try to sell it back to them a few years down the track lol.

Thanks!

    Hello new user of 7 mins. What does the build/compliance plate on the vehicle say?

    • Hello sir!

      Unfortunately the car is still at the dealership so I'm unable to check until tomorrow.
      Is there an online service that will give me that information if I punch in the rego?

  • For model spec comparision, try something like this:

    https://www.caradvice.com.au/compare-specs/05w520-hyundai-i3…

    The above website doesn't show a fastback option for 2018 - so that might answer your question regarding the MY.

    • Beautiful. Thanks mate.
      Also looks like the 2019 and 2020 is identical in every way!

    A car built in 2018 can still be a MY19.

    It's most likely a 2018 built car but 2019 model year.

    There's a John Cadogan (Auto expert) video on this on YouTube.

    • I'll have a look now. Thanks mate!

    Oh, I love MY discrepancy threads…

    Check the 10th digit of the VIN. This is the MY identifier…

    J = 18
    K = 19

    Insurance and rego usually work off build or compliance dates… not MY.

    • Thank you Pegaxs!

  • just wanna say that this car looks soo good, hope you have fun driving it!

  • Nice car, I do like the fastback

  • I like the coupe-ish look of the rear. Congrats on the new car.

  • Thanks everyone :) Much appreciated.

  • How the hell did you get a i30n fastback with 9k km for $35000 ?!?! that's a killer deal!
    the cheapest i30n are around 36k with more KM on the clock!!
    where is this and do they have more?

  • Congrats Cheru, good choice and lot of fun at a good price you managed. Once you have this issue sorted I am sure there is a lot of fun waiting for you.
