Help - Very Cheap Desktop for Gaming

Hi,

I would just like some suggestions on a budget desktop pc that could play CSGO/DOTA2 or games at least in a medium setting that is around $500-800.

I tried some PC builders but I don't know what to add and when I do usually end up on the $1500 or higher mark lol. I have an alienware laptop bought 6 years ago and I can't even play csgo or dota 2 with fps higher than 20. So I am an idiot in terms of computer specs.

Thanks!

Cheapest is probably the small form factor second hand machines we see on here, then add a low profile graphics card.

    • Dell Optiplex 9020 ~$200
      Low Profile GTX1050 Ti or 1650 ~$300
Decent build for $500 but you'd likely be unable to upgrade after that

  • gumtree? else as @mskeggs put it, a second hand sff ex professional pc with a 1660ti low profile graphics card

    • Thank you. would check on that

  • What model laptop do you have?

    • M14Rx2 - its shit now. not sure why. didnt bother to have it checked as there are no alienware services back in my country, also warranty is long gone.

      • You might want to investigate if you can fit a decent graphics card in that

The CPU is ok. The ram is ok.

If you can fit an SSD (which you can) coupled with a decent GPU, you would be ok.

        • That model hasn't got an upgradeable GPU, it's also usually very expensive to buy laptop GPUs and I believe they've stopped after the GTX9xx series. Laptop is also before the Alienware Amplifier so an external GPU isn't an option.

          • @FireRunner: Yup. Cant replace GPU. The only thing I could replace there is the RAM which I am already rocking 16GB, Which is useless.

  • Where are you located? If in Perth, the system below with a low-profile 1050-Ti would provide a decent experience for the $:

    https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/duncraig/desktops/lenovo-m71…

    i5 7400
    8GB DDR4
    256GB NVME
    Windows 10 Pro
Balance of manufacturers original 3 year onsite 9x5 warranty thru 15/10/21.

    $395

    • Wow 395 is a steal. Sadly I live in Victoria.

  • Note also GPU prices are quite a bit higher than they were at Xmas, presumably due to increased demand from stay at home and depreciated dollar.
Might be better if you can wait a couple of months.
