Can I Use a Cat 6 Cable to Connect My Wi-Fi Router from My NBN Box

Hi, so I'm thinking of moving my wifi router or even potentially mounting it to the ceiling. To do that, I would need a longer ethernet cable. The cable that connects my NBN box to my wifi router is a Cat 5e cable and I was wondering whether I would need to buy a Cat 5e cable or could I just buy a Cat 6. The reason being I find that there is a better selection of colours (ik colours doesn't affect the speed) and lengths for Cat 6.

I am pretty sure that its fine if I do use Cat 6 instead of Cat 5e but a part of me is saying that the NBN is an exception.

Thanks :)

    Yes

A Cat6 cable provides higher bandwidth than a Cat5e. Both work for up to 100 mbit. Use Cat6 for anything higher.

      1000mbit you mean?

    I do.

    Works fine.

You probably don't want to mount your regular router to the ceiling. The router wont have mounting holes for it and you might need to access it for other things. Buy a dedicated ceiling mounted wifi access point.
