Return Opened Item from Amazon AU (Prime member)

Hey folks,

I recently bought a Reolink 8 Channel NVR with 4 camera bundle from Amazon from their recent lightning sale.

I have opened it and tested it and it is all running well. However when I went to go install it, I realized that It might be a bit too much and am now thinking of returning it. I only received the item a couple of days ago and It is still inside the return window.

When I spoke to the Customer service dude via Amazon Chat, he said he will send me a return label which I print it out and stick on the box and I will not have to pay the return fee and will be refunded completely.

Is this legit? I was looking at other threads and people were charged a restocking fee or other charges. I don't want to send it all the way back only to be charge another $100 because the item has been opened.

Any ideas?

    "Packaging must be unopened and seals intact (where applicable)." as per their change of mind policy.

    • Thats what I read. When I asked the person and told him that I have opened it, broke the seal and tested it, he said no worries just print the label and stick it on and it won't cost me anything.

              I even told him how if it was sold through a 3rd party I might have to pay 20% re-stocking fee, and he said that since he personally created the return label for me, I won't be charged anything.

        That sounds like he was just confirming you wouldn't have to pay return shipping, not confirming that you'd be fully refunded.

          He said that "he will create a free return for me and I'll recieve a complete refund for it."

          I hope that means I am in the clear…

    Amazon's return system is very good, few times they've refunded me and told me to keep the item and do what i want with it

    • That's the reason , customers buy from Amazon eyes closed, knowing if anything goes wrong, or they change their mind it's just so easy to return and for free.

      No doubt Jeff Bezos is world's richest.

  • Yes, it’s legit, they rather you be impressed with their CS and shop again in the future than never coming back.

    Just don't return too many items to Amazon as a percentage of your purchases otherwise you may be deemed unprofitable.

      Their CS is really good if you have genuine problems but once you get on their shitlist you're SOL.

      • Agreed customer service is probably the best around, but yeah don't get on the blacklist. I've been there before with Amazon US, not a good place.

    • What is the consequences to be deemed unprofitable?

      • Basically if you return too much, higher than acceptable, they can decide to deactivate your account. There is quite a bit of commentary online if you google it.

  • I've managed to return my oculus quest back to amazon only because the one I received was second hand.

  • Amazon CS is the best in Australia, never doubt about them.

  • Hey chicken, how did you end up with this situation? In a similar boat but with something a fair bit more expensive and the chat rep states I will get a full refund with the free return label for open box change of mind.

    • returned super easy. I put everything back and they gave a full refund. It was my first refund ever and I was a prime member.

      If the chat agent gives you a free return label and says you will get a full refund (as long as you packed everything), you should be ok. Just take some photos before stuffing htebox.
