I think they are still $494 on amazon

    • more expensive after factoring in the $16.83 in shipping though

      • +2

$16.83 pays for nearly 3 months of Prime.

        • 3.423 months if you pay annually ;)

          • @miarn: It's what I do. Only takes like 5 orders and you've paid off your Prime. Better value than eBay Plus.

            • @Clear: Yep. There's some good stuff on Prime Video too.

    "When Using Afterpay"

Encouraging get now, pay later schemes during these uncertain times is irresponsible. Come on Scorptec.

      It's an eBay discount…not Scorptec.

I take that bit back then, but change it to "Come on eBay!"

AfterPay is a sickness on society

      • Why? It's no worse than a credit card, and far better than rent-to-own.

Sure people can get into trouble with it, but you could say the same about anything.

This is a processor that doesn't really make sense for many people … it doesn't do more than the 3600 (for gaming) but it hasn't got enough cores to make it work like the 3900 (gaming + streaming).

    • i tend to agree - but i've got my eye on one. i've got an ITX build and while i wanted the 3900x, the higher TDP turns me off. I want as many cores as i can get and don't really play games. i seem to fall into that small demographic

There's more use cases than gaming and streaming. Plenty of design and graphic related work that can benefit from it.

I would say the other element is how often do you upgrade? While any user could grab a 3600 today and then pick up a 3700 or 3900 later on for much cheaper if they need to, many won't. If you're a user that doesn't upgrade for years at a time 8 cores may be preferential in the long run a bit akin to Sandybridge back in the day (over powered at the time but good long term value from that chip).

Now talking of CPU's that don't make sense for people I would say the value proposition of the 3600X and 3800X are front and centre here.

For me 3700x is the sweet spot if you are not just gaming.
More cores help in lot of software. It definitely helps when I render my guitar tracks. It is lot faster then i7 8700 I had. Also, I wouldn't spend more for 3900x which would still be faster for rendering but dont need[Can't afford] the extra performance for the budget.

    • the PS5 has this processor equivalent, and games will be developed around it so you'll probably see games start utilising 8 cores over time

if you're on a budget and not obsessed with the highest framerates i would look in to this $100 8c/16t xeon:

  • Not going to create a new deal for it but down to $473 on amazon for those interested

  • Received mine already. Nice quick shipping.

The fan on this thing is a beast can't wait to hook it up, w00t
