Looking to Buy Dishwasher, Recommendations Please

My dishwasher has broken, arms aren't spinning anymore and seems to much of a hassle to fix the appliance after researching in regards to the buying parts/labour.

My price range ideally is $0 (the OzBargain way) but around $1000-$1500 to be realistic.

Obviously waiting for the Ebay deal 15% or 20% would be the best scenario if jack doesn't snatch them all up.
Unfortunately having to wash mass amounts of dishes causes issues so I would be open to buying an appliance ASAP.

What model & brand dishwasher would you recommend?

  • Also to add - my previous dishwasher dimensions were 600 X 600 X 850mm ( W x D x H ) but the dishwasher I have looked at are all very similar in dimensions so i don't that is an issue.

Pretty sure there are standard dimensions unlike refrigerators

Bosch make good dishwashers. Buy one. The Series 4 and Series 6 models are in or under your price range.

I brought a Bosch for my old house. I thought it was very good. It was one that had the buttons hidden on top so the kids couldn't press them. Felt well built and always did a good job. Think I paid around the $1200 mark.

I currently have an Elba (Fisher & Paykel sub brand) in my current house and whilst it feels cheapish (plastic feel) it always does a good job washing the dishes.

Have a series 6, love it, very quiet.

+1 for Bosch, these are the best. just make sure you get a model which is made in Germany, they just keep running and dont give any dramas. been through a few dishwashers and they all seem good in the beginning, but Bosch goes the distance and doesnt seem to have many problems.

    • I've also got a Bosch Series 6. It's fantastic. Very easy to set up and lots of safety features.

Got mine from Appliances Online, who tend to be pretty cheap all year round.

    • Agree. I've had one for about 7 years or so. No issues. Quiet and cleans well. Actually dries the dishes too.

    Asko.

  • We got a Euromaid about 12 months ago and love it. It's just as good as our old Fisher and Paykel, but way quieter (40dBA).

  • have a 1 month old $580 Dishlex and have been very happy with it. cleans very well even in the ECO mode, was expecting it to be very noisy but it is quiet enough for us

    • They're supposed to be quiet, hence the italicised and underlined sh in Dishlex

      • My last Dishlex was very quiet and very reliable. Two years out of extended warranty and still going. We moved and left it, as the new place already had a brand new one. Midea. Never heard of it before, and the parts seem lighter, but it works well.

My partner has a Miele, which definitely feels more solid, but it doesn't seem significantly better for the massive difference in purchase price.

Just bought a Bosch sms46g102a from the good guys for $867 on sale have used it once much more quiet than my fisher and paykel so far so good

i have a bosch series 8 but have had a series 6 in the past. would recommend. very quiet, good wash cycles, doesn't use a heater element in the bottom so it doesn't melt plastic things in the lower basket. can easily get parts for them too and easy to fix.

    • If OP is not in a hurry, Bosch series 8 could be bought for about $1088 with the good guys 20% eBay discount.

    Look at Choice.com.au

Stay away from Euro. I had lots problems with mine, it lasted 2 years. I’m looking at the Bosch series 6 as well. I’m holding out for a good deal on one

  • Seems a lot of possible options aren't available at my closest JBhifi, currently trying to price match Dishlex DSF6106W Freestanding Dishwasher ($529) with Hardlynormal. I'm looking at a lot of serie 6 Bosch but there is a lot of difference in the models, hard to choose.

  • Under no circumstances go anywhere near a Samsung. Pieces of shit and leave dishes wet. I currently have a Bosch, made in Germany. Faultless and dry clean dishes every time.

  • Very happy with our Bosch series 6. Our plumber said we made a good choice, he highly recommends them and most of the dishwashers that he is installing are the Bosch series 6. From our family who has only just got a dishwasher for the first time in our life, we are more than impressed with it! We did a fair bit of research beforehand and it seems to have paid off.

My family had two dishwashers growing up, my brother and I.

  • Smeg!!! Just bought one, so clean and so quiet!

  • Hope this isn't thread-jacking, but is it cheaper to buy a dishwasher, then hire a plumber to come install it - or can you source the dishwasher through the plumber..? I guess I'm wondering if they can get them at a trade price or something like that..?

    • If you are replacing an existing washer. You can install it yourself.

It's very much like a washing machine.

      1. attach it to the water source on the wall
      2. plug in power.
    • Depends. You may need a sparkle for power as well. Can cost from 200 to $1000 for a new install. For a replacement unit, you can probably DIY if you are comfortable with connecting and disconnecting hoses. Also applianceonline will replace the unit for free.

    • Plumbers don't usually sell dishwashers, they would have to add a % on the top if they did. Better off buying it your self.

Spray arms not turning can simply be that they are blocked up with food or crap. Worth a check and spend 10 minutes cleaning them and it could save you a dishwasher.

If you’re going to buy a Dishlex then it may be worth looking at Beko, 5 years warranty.

Miele. It's probably over budget and never on sale but my parents had one, I bought one - it's now nearly 20 years old and has never broken down and still runs like new. It's so quiet we regularly open the door accidentally while it's running. We don't cheap out on the tablets and we plumbed it to a hot water connection. I don't see it ever dying.

    • My Miele lasted 17 years. Just replaced it with another Miele.

      • My Miele is now 20 years old and still goes like new. Has never broken down. But I clean out the filter regularly and don't use cheap tablets (well I do wait until the premium fairy platinum tabs are super cheap and buy a years worth)

  • Bosch in the mid range and Siemens a preference preference if budget allows.

  • +1

Slightly related tips from dishwasher installer - use powder over tablets. Cheaper and gives a better wash
    - If you don't want to pay extra and waste time for super drying capability, just open the door as soon as the cycle clicks off, and the dishes will dry quickly.

  • Fisher & Paykel Dishdrawer. The amount you can stack in them is amazing, very quiet and easy to service. Don't buy Euro, after about 8 years you can't get parts anyway.

    • +1

+1 for the dish drawer. I got the integrated one where you can put your own drawer fronts on it. Slotted in easily into my IKEA kitchen.

  • Another vote(ish) for Bosch Series 6. It works and is relatively faultless. Cant say it dries that well. Just recently the top washer arm stopped working because the o-ring at the back broke and it looks like Bosch only sell the entire arm for $54 so I just got a black rubber o-ring from an Aldi o-ring selection and it's all good now.

  • Our Westinghouse Dishwasher Model SB921KE04 is still going strong and trouble free after 20 years, except that many of the detachable steel prongs that hold the large plates on the lower basket have broken off. I phoned Westinghouse Spares in Pymble NSW and they they no longer have spares for the lower basket for this model

I then looked in Ebay and located used steel prongs in good condition for $20 plus postage from a business in Qld, which I strapped onto the lower basket using plastic cable ties & this works well, so looking forward to many more years of trouble free use

On eBay I note that similar type Westinghouse Dishwashers sell for between $550 & $800 (List price $1149) incl shipping

  • Took a punt on an AEG $1399 FFB72600PW
ProClean freestanding dishwasher today at HN. Swayed by the 1) lack of cutlery drawer up top as I prefer more space for taller pots and stuff on the bottom rack as the top rack is height adjustable plus there are 3 spray arms vs typically two spray arms on most machines. 2) Five year warranty direct with Electrolux instead of a 3rd party contractor like our Bosch washing machine 3) No delivery and installation fee where they take away our old machine, typical $200-250 otherwise. 4) Made in Italy? Lol other than that wondering given it's a fixed price item now allowing for any haggling whether it's a good deal or not. Machine arrives tomorrow but had I seen the advertised Beko DSN28435X for $700 even with freight and installation say $300, wondering if the extra $400 paid is worthwhile. What are you guys thoughts?
