Wi-Fi Signal Booster recommendations?

Hey all,

Just wondering if I need something like a Wi-Fi booster.

Basically if I put my laptop in my dining room, I get around 10mb/s. If I'm in my study, I get around 3.5mb/s.( It's on the other side of the house far from modem).

Now that's not the issue, unfortunately my PS4 is near my study and for some reason I'm getting ridiculously slow speeds. Originally I was getting 8-9mb/s download speeds but recently under 2-3mb/s and downloading 100s of GB is painfully slow.

Will a booster solve this issue? Any recommendations?

Thank you

    Get a mesh system.
    Google wifi
    Ubiquiti
Creates a single unified wireless network without needing to switch to a booster which by design halves your speeds anyways.

We have a Tenda mesh that was under $100 and is great.

  • Powerline Wi-Fi extender is also an option (to improve the signal and speeds)
    or
If it's only for a single device, EoP (ie powerline adapters) is the best option

  • How close can you get to your PS4 before the speeds drop off significantly with your laptop?

Are you using 5ghz or 2.4ghz?
2.4 will be better for the longer range.

Get a wifi analyzer app on your phone, check the signal strength and if there's any other networks on the same frequency.

I would powerline adapter the PS4 so it's essentially plugged in to the router if you don't want to fork out for a mesh system.

  • I literally don't know any of this stuff 😬

My PS4 is in the family room, basically my study is in the room nextdoor. I cant move it any closer, but it's weird that when I first installed it I was getting fast speeds and the last week it's slow. Maybe the network is jammed up? But my laptop was just getting 11mb/s downloading in dining room.

The laptop starts to improve speeds even in my kitchen, unfortunately there is a few walls between the study and the dining room. It's probably 15-20m away. I easily can move my laptop tho.

I'll take all advice on board and see what changes I can make for improvment!

How much are mesh systems? Doesn't look like a cheap option 🤔🤣

Before I did network test 34.5mbits, now I did it and 98.4mbits

I'm not sure what's interfering with the signal. All of a sudden it's working fine and I'm getting ridiculous speeds 10-15mb/s. I'm with Telstra cable with boost.

If it used to be good, then have you tried restarting your modem and/or router?

Checked the WiFi channels for congestion? Any new electronic appliances near the modem?

Tenda is cheaper and still effective according to most reviews. One to consider. Kogan has a version of it also.
