NBN install. Existing voice sockets

had to get NBN installed for my mum as she was previously on Optus for voice only.

she is in a telstra HFC area with a HFC port in a bedroom.

existing voice sockets in another bedroom and in kitchen.

when they do they install are they supposed to connect up the voice sockets or just provide and single point at the HFC socket?

connected to tpg 29.95 plan if that makes any difference

    HFC Socket

The NBN tech is unlikely to run any extension to the existing voice sockets.

The tech will install an NTD (network termination device)at the socket. The modem supplied by the service provider will have the voice port on it to connect a phone. Tech is not responsible for internal wiring, you would need to engage your own telecom tech. Recommend a cordless phone connected to the modem.

  • The activation tech is responsible to connect the leadin to the first socket. Tell them to run the cable up the wall cavity, in roof and down where you want it. They get paid $80 per activation and will try to do the bare minimum to close the ticket which is a back to back activation.

    • The home already has a HFC outlet.. I don't expect the tech to do anything but install the NTD at that outlet and be done.

  • What would happen for a new HFC installation in a house with 3 existing and working Foxtel outlets? Will they all have the NBN signal active?

    • NBN will provision a new LIC if the existing one is blocked and the cable cut.

      • Sorry I did not understand, what is a LIC? Looking at the NBN istruction they show the NBN box connecting to the Foxtel outlet in the house, the one I connect the Foxtel receiver. I wonder if the NBN box will work in any Foxtel outlet I have at home, they all give me the Foxtel signal

        • Provided they are all connected, then yes.
But you'll probably get better performance if you disconnect all but the active connection point.
