Monitor Recommendations ($300 Maximum)

Hi all,

Looking for a monitor and not sure where to start. Looking to spend a maximum of $300 (however, if another option is significatnly better, I may spend a maximum of $500, but would really prefer max of $300).

I will be using the monitor for general work (would prefer better than a 1080p screen), and also will be using it for light gaming (Dota 2 only).

Any recommendations would be great please! I'm happy to order online or pick up from a store..

Thanks!

According to this store the most popular monitors are the ridge-tail and the sand monitor. I'm not sure how much space you have at home but maybe the ridge tail monitor would be the better choice, it only grows to 70cm long.

Seems like you're after something pretty basic. I highly recommend to get down to a shop and inspect the monitors yourself. Everyone has different opinions in terms of monitors but just get one that best suits your need and budget. Make sure you ask for a "best price" and look online (use staticice.com.au for prices)

  • How is dota 2 light gaming?

well I think he means that dota is not cpu/gpu intensive which is correct

    • Dota 2 is definitely light gaming. You can get playable framerates on like an 8 year old GPU.

Edit: Scratch that, it's more like a 12 year old GPU.

    • My 8 year old GPU still does fine on high settings.

If you mean by the 'casualness' of Dota 2, I play Dota 2 primarily for its custom games. Play a quick 20-40 minutes and I'm basically off the game.

  • I would say pixel density is less important than screen ratio for a office/work monitor.

I can strongly recommend the Dell U2412M or U2415, both 16:10 screen ratio with IPS panels for accurate colour fidelity (if your work is graphics based).

    You can wait for refurb models (U2412M @ $150, U2415 @ $240), or $310 for a new U2412M.

    • I prefer at least 16:9 for work, split screen is a lot more usable.

      • I personally find more screen height to be easier to use for work - less scrolling for me.

A 16:10 24" would have roughly the same screen height as a 16:9 27", so I guess it would depend on how much horizontal space you have to fit the monitor. A 27" would probably need to do better than 1080p though.

  • AOC 24G2 is a great monitor - 24" 1080p 144Hz IPS and well within your budget.

  • I am also looking to buy two monitors.

Which one did you buy eventually ?
