[QLD, NSW] "ON" by Energy Australia - 18c Fit [QLD Only] + [NSW Only] Solar+Battery Deal

130

So I was inspired by @CrocDundee's efforts with Origin Energy in THIS thread.

Because it took so long for Energy Australia to resolve my house not being on the energex database (originally caused by installer & Alinta), I've decided to stay in case it gets botched again… but upon visiting their FiT Page came across details for their new subsidiary at the bottom.

It's basically the exact same rate as EA minus the discount and with my 6.6kw system (5kw inverter), it still works out roughly $30 cheaper for my last quarter bill. I'd imagine this is even better for those with bigger systems or consistent Sun. But then again, i'm not even sure if discount instantly applies automatically anyway when your account is in credit.

I feel even dumber than usual.
What’s the initial outlay and total outlay?

    • This is an electricity tariff.
If you have a decent solar system, they pay you.

Edit: Sorry, of course you meant the solar + battery deal. That's $0.

  • Seems like a good deal. AGL is currently 17c FIT , what is the daily service charge compared to AGL?

  • +1

    Daily service charge
    AGL: $.97
    ON: $.99

    Solar service charge (aprox)
    AGL: $.07
    On: $.07

    General usage (kWh)
    AGL: $.23
    ON: $.26

    Feed in tarrif
    AGL $.17
    ON: $.18

AGL allows concessions / pensioners. ON does not.

    • thanks for the breakdown :)

    • All the amounts you quoted for AGL are excluding GST. The amounts quoted for ON are including GST.

      See: https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/plan?id=AGL15272MRE&postco…

      Daily service charge:
      AGL: 106.7c + 7.7c solar
      ON: 99c + 7.52c solar

      General usage:
      AGL: 25.66c
      ON: 26.27c

      Feed in Tariff:
      AGL: 17c
      ON: 18c

I don't see any way the AGL plan could be considered better.

Also, the Origin 20c plan is even better than this.

  • My address was not eligible, is this based on a list of post codes published somewhere?

    • All it says is: South East Queensland (Energex) only.

  • Yes +1 for this, please share the Origin details. I'd be keen.

  • Not too long ago - Origin & AGL gave me 21c FIT + $150 rebate for switching gas & electricity.

  • This ON by EnergyAustralia offer is really tempting. They install a solar panel and a Tesla battery and you get a decent plan for 7 years (26.5cents/kWh and 86 cents supply charge) fixed. After 7 years the panel and battery is yours. Those rates are pretty good and I don’t think our electricity price will get any cheaper.

    • It mentions that they can use the power stored in your battery to feed into the network at their own discretion though, so you may not always have the capacity you expect.

      • i read somewhere Tesla guarantees 70% capacity at 10years.

        • I don't mean overall maximum capacity, I mean the amount of power you have in the battery at any given time.

          • @Jonzay: you get tariffed at a mixed usgae meaning, you will use your own energy as well as from the grid. in essence nothing changes for you. after 7 years the system is ours and the rate they lock you in for 7 years is pretty good atm.

  • Googled Tesla Powerwall Lifespan, and found the batteries may last 10 years ?

  • The financial risk if you ever have to move house is pretty high, especially in the early years

    • Can't you take it with you? Wouldn't be hard for a sparky to disconnect the powerwall.

      • Labour is one of the major costs of a solar + battery system.

      • You have to pay a pro-rata buy-back depending on when you cancel the deal, starting at $15k and going down. It would have some resale value, but I can imagine that there's a risk there that you get stuck with an overpriced buy-back, especially if prices on new panels and batteries keep falling

    • selling a house with brand new solar system and a Tesla powerwall sounds like it will attract a higher price.
