Does Anybody Know of Anywhere to Buy Discounted Sirena Tuna?

Hi guys,

I'm quickly coming to my last 95g can of Sirena Tuna.
Does anybody have any word for any discounts coming in the near future?
Or is there a contact somewhere to buy in bulk?

I can't justify paying $2.70 per can at my local supermarkets and other brands just don't compare.

Thanks in advance.

With all due respect have you considered that Sirena actually source their tuna from the same country that most other tuna brands (home brand and name brand) sold in Australia comes from FAO Fishing Zone 71? http://www.fao.org/fishery/area/Area71/en

The company Sirena is far from the product it proports to be. The taste is no way near that of other overseas tuna which is fished in FAO Fishing area 37. They have been very deceptive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJeP9PXPkdo .

Thailand is one of the major trading nations with FTA and so one of the commodities are tuna, sirena is processed and packed in Thialand.

When it comes to quality and flavour I don't think you could pass Callipo Tuna which comes from Italy fished in FAO-37. https://www.thegrocerygeek.com.au/portfolio-item/callipo-tun…

        More info on fishing zones:

I haven't purchased any local consumer tuna since there really isn't a local market to start with. Happier to support a product from overseas which actually tastes and has a level of quality and actually looks like tuna rather than the mash you get out of a Sirena Tin.

I can attest to this. By far the best canned tuna i have had. But, i have to travel 70kms to the closest shop that sells it, so, it's Aldi chilli tuna for me 98% of the time.

          • @imnotgoingtopayrrp: What country do you live in lol?

I was in North Queensland and found callipo in the local deli in Mareeba which is west of Cairns. Mareeba is a small farming town kind of like what Penrith used to be to Sydney back in those earlier times.

        • Interesting insight
Where can you buy callipo tuna?

        • Great insight. I checked coles online and can’t find the Callipo. Perhaps discontinued? That would be a shame. I love my tuna!

          • @Dougaldog: I think you might have to go to specific stores, many stores will stock items that are not staples but have the community profile who will buy it.

        • So is the callipo actually like tuna? I love tuna, but can't bring myself to eat the cat food that the normal canned stuff resembles.

          • @brendanm: It is tuna that doesn't look like it has come out of a cat food tin. It is completely idiosyncratic that a country such as ours with abundant waters which like the national anthem says "a land girt by sea" doesn't have a decent tuna and other fish processing industries.

    • You've misheard, now the Woolies Yellow find Tuna was very close till they increased the salt content, and screwed it up.

I love Sirena tuna and buy whenever it’s half price BUT I found Woolies’ Yellowfin tuna ($1.30) to be near identical in taste and texture.

I recommend a visit to your nearest Woolies to see how it measures up.

Honestly I won’t be able to tell in a blind taste test, and I eat many tins of Sirena / Woolies tunas a month - especially chilli in oil.

It was very similar till they increased the salt content ~6 months ago.

The challenge is ON! I’ll buy Sirena next time they’re on sale and do a blind taste test - serve them on identical plates (maybe marked underneath which is which, or ask family for help) and see if I can tell the difference!

I like it when people come here desperate for that next deal. I like the passion!

  • I know costco sold them in bulk, I forgot the price but definitely cheaper than 2.7 a can

havent been a while so bot sure if they still have it or what flavours (thinking it wa chilli)

    • They have them in six packs for about $20 in brine and chilli/oil. Not sure why they don't sell the oil variety. Seems like a common thing in Costco to stock weird combinations or not so wanted varieties.

E.g. why do they sell large packets of Popcorners in Sweet and Salty and not Sea Salt?

      • I just purchased the large pack in Oil yesterday, so they definitely stock it (but they don't stock the large Chilli in Oil).

        • Which Costco is this?

I find Aldi's very good. Especially the chili version

There is usually a deal semi annually, which is when i stock up.

    Thanks guys!
I bought a batch of Woolies Yellowfin, and I'm very pleased. This will do until Sirena finally goes on sale!
