Same price at robins kitchen as well.

Makes you think it might not be an actual sale :O

Stuff like this usually has insanely overpriced RRP. $400 sounds about right.

        • +3

$400! You're paying for the knife block here and even then it's not worth that. $300 will get you two Shun Classic knives that will be all you ever need and will also blow these things away.

@C0mbat: Sorry, I meant $400 sounds about right for full price for this item, as opposed to an absurd $1200. I still don't think it's worth it though. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm in the market for new knives and will look into this. Cheers.

Out of curiousity, how do you keep them sharp? Do you just take them to a knife sharpener once a year?

Edit: Holy crap. I just found out they offer lifetime knife sharpening for free?! I will definitely put these on my wishlist. https://shunaustralia.com.au/shun-australia-sharpening-servi…

            • @antigrate: Just buy the global minosharp. I've owned my Shun chef and paring knives for 10 years and always used a whetstone like an amateur. I recently bought the minosharp and it is so amazing. It's one of things where you buy it and you're kicking yourself for not owning one all of your life. I got the 3 wheel one but to be honest the 2 wheel one would be fine.

FYI,the free sharpening must be a gimmick because you need to sharpen them at least once a fortnight.

              • @C0mbat: As a matter of interest, why is using a whetstone amateur?
                Thanks for the minosharp recommendation.

@catbarf: Sorry, I meant that I used to personally be an amateur. If you're prepared to hone your skills on one then they are no doubt far better value over the lifetime because you will have to replace the minosharp wheels every now and again.

                  • @C0mbat: Thanks for replying! I just wanted to check if there was something I was missing!

Robins Kitchen, forever in a closing down, moving, renovating sale. I wonder if they are doing anything illegal.

      • No different to Harris Scarfe

        • Or house haha

          • +2

            @liveish: Or National Tiiiiiiles

          • @liveish: House and Robins Kitchen are the same store?

  • +1

This seems to be less than half the price per knife (you don't get the ridiculous holder though): https://www.robinskitchen.com.au/product/baccarat-id3-japane…

    • +1

While the holder looks amazing, who would lay additional 200$ for a metallic egg…lol

      • +1

A metallic chicken? Am I right?

  • +3

Can you actually ever buy Baccarat at RRP?

    • +1

Isn't that every kitchen brand to be fair? Global knives are always 50% off etc

  • +3

Fake RRPs. This mob need to be investigated for some of the sh*t they try and pull.

    • +2

Do you want to start the Royal Commission or will I?

  • A lot of items we wanted to buy have gone to full price or been removed from the website

  • It does look pretty cool, but you’d have to put the top somewhere when you are accessing your knives. I know I’d probably rarely put the top on. Everyone’s different I suppose. It does look cool however. Sigh.

  • +4

Looks cool, but you’ll ALWAYS grab the wrong knife and what’s with the bullshit RRP

  • +1

The amount of times I’ve quickly needed to grab a knife when cooking is high.

I couldn’t imagine trying to open a stupid slippery egg when I’ve got stuff on the boil.

You know what the quality is like when they have to turn comments off on their YouTube video

You're better off getting a set of Global knives for the same price. https://www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/Global-Ikasu-7pc-Knife-B…

  • +1

Those knives look awful :S They look like they're designed to look nice and nothing else. Although I'm assuming that for anybody buying these knives the design is the only thing that matters…

  • +1

Half the price and will do quite nicely, https://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Public/Victorinox-Appr…

Or just get one good knife and have it sharpened every few months, https://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Public/Wusthof-Trident…

I don't know why the majority of people even bother looking for decent knives, when most will never use a steel on them or ever sharpen them.

  • +2

I remember when you'd get a free set when buying an abxciser

  • Which are sharper this or Ginsu?
