I remember reading previous comments on here that the V3 is worth the money over any other ones in the range, even the A129, correct me if I am wrong.

    • got v3 few months back, dont know wht culd b better.

      • +1

        Maybe a duo?!

        • Duo ll b gr8 i think. For the Front only, V3 is exceptional, only downside is it dont have Wi-Fi, bt i don't care about it much as wifi transfer of file reduces the file size.

          • +1

@ChipsChicky: Wifi transfer reduces the files size? Never knew! Thanks for telling, didnt even hear it from the online reviews.

Have the A119s v2 for a few years and highly recommend it. While all VIOFO dash cameras are good quality during the day time, the A119S is exceptionally good during the night as well. Dimmly lit areas appear much brighter.
I find the VIOFO brand highly reliable as have brought a number of these over the years in our cars and family cars and all going strong

    • does anyone compare this with xiaomi 70mai???

  • +4

I would always recommend a rear facing camera as well. (A129)

Getting rear ended is a very common accident.

    • But less likely to face charges

      • +5

That's why people try to run when it happens…

      • Apparently they dont censor plates in these at all:/

        • No need.
It's public, there's no expectation of privacy unless it's taken to extremes of stalking/nuisance.
Besides, the only one to complain about having information leak of the license plates are the people that have something to hide; ie, those that do hit and run. Regular motorists won't see it, and/or won't care. And showing in-the-field testing about how these dashcams perform is vitally important in the sea of copycat models with fake specifications. Hardly anyone does it, most reviewers say "oh, yeah, you must buy this one it looks great, take my word" without ever backing it up. We prefer this transparent type of reviews where they're much less biased, and much more professional.

Unbox Therapy is one of those un-professional shills, and there's hundreds more of him out there.

Yeah not sure how to DIY the power cable to rear camera. You can ruin the interior lining and roof if you are not good at it

      • +2

Go down the left a frame pillar, along the door skirting where all the other wiring is, then up the rear pillar.

need a video, and every car might be different

          • +1

@neonlight: All the same basic method. Just follow the existing wiring. There are plenty of youtube videos.

    • I’d have to agree. I bought the V2 and only later realised that the A129 existed. If I had my time over (and the dosh) I would get the 129 instead.

  • +1

Any deal on the dual camera?

  • How do I know what version I've bought 119 or 119S ?

  • +2

Nice, been waiting for a119 model for a long time . Thanks op

  • My v2 won't read microsd cards anymore so I got a v3 last week.
Seems to be a few have the same problem but because they are so cheap just grab another rather than complain about it.

    • My v2 will just show the VIOFO startup screen only most of the time. The other unit which is older has not missed a beat.

      • Either of you tried to update the firmware on them?

I also found after switching to hardwire my v2 stopped randomly restarting, I think my USB cable or lighter adapter was the problem.

        • No I haven't updated the FW and will need to look up how to do it.
I might swap the 2 units on our 2 cars to rule out cable issues. Then I'll swap SD cards.

        • I updated the firmware to the latest before buying a new one.
Interestingly it read the image from the sd card to upgrade.
Still no go with reading sd card.
          Always prompts to format.

The same 128G samsung is happy in the v3.

        • Manage to load the latest FW onto my A119S and it seems to be back to working again for the quick test that I did. Now to just keep an eye to see if it is recording reliably.

Please tell me which one is good?
    Thanks

  • +2

I've got a V3 facing the front and am looking for a rear one now based on the comments. Is it good to get one of these (V2) just for the rear or better to purchase a dual setup altogether?

    • The 129 dual only does 30fps each channel so you would get 1080p 60fps front and back with two cameras

    • How are you going to power a second one? Would be much easier if you're lucky enough to have a cig lighter in your boot I suppose. Unless you're looking to hard wire anyway or get it "professionally" installed.

Been waiting for the v3 deal since early this year, haven't seem one for awhile

  • +1

Had one for 12m and it died after this summers heat. Mainly lives in a garage, shame. Replaced with the 70mai for $60, no screen but pic quality seems the same.

    • They are not on the same level, see youtube reviews you can tell A119 is way suerior than 70mai. Theres a reason these are top selling dashcam voted by dashcamtalk.

      • +1

Hmmmm, my experience is they don't last. Not built for the Australian summer…

        • +1

Pretty contradictory to my experience ,my a119 lasted two years already, they are built for hot summer by using super capacitor instead of lithium battery, i guess it really depends on personal experience how long it lasts.if xiaomi 70mai using a battery, I would suggest to avoid at any cost just in case it will fail or explode under extreme weather.

  • Never had a dashcam before, because I am worried that it will be damaged by heat during summer (WA). Is this an invalid concern?

    • I would say these are pretty durable, my car is outside in the sun all year round with one of these (for past 3 years) and it's still working. They are capacity powered so no battery + heat issue.

    • +1

These dashcams use a large capacitor to power the device rather than a battery, the capacitor is a lot less susceptible to heat damage compared to a typical lithium rechargeable battery. The information on my last one specifically mentioned that it was suitable for Australian sun

  • Have quite a few of these but finding replacement mini usb cables is getting annoying. Have had some that cables that cause the unit to just turn on and off continuously even when plugged into a verified anker, ravpower, tronsmart wall charger and yet plugged into a computer usb socket it powers the unit as a usb device storage. But in the car it does the same on and off cycling .

What can't they move onto using microusb or usb c

    • Find a well built mini USB cable and tape the thing to the dashcam to stabilise it. The mechanical housing where the port is so dodgy and not correctly positioned.

  • +2

If your V2 shits itself, update the firmware and pray! Worked for me a few times on separate devices.

    • Thanks. Will try with mine.

    • My A119S shat itself a year ago. Updated firmware and all good.

Solid unit. Has been on the car for 3 years running.

    • Updated FW and seems to have done the job based on the quick test. i.e. it now turns on and starts recording every time power is applied. Previously, it mostly hangs on the VIOFO startup screen.

  • S model sold out

  • ShoppingSquare gets some bad reviews. Anyone had experience with them before?

    • +1

I had a warranty claim on my Viofo A119 V3 with them just recently. It took three weeks to resolve but they were quick to respond to my emails.

  • The GPS module on my A119 V3 recently died and I'm waiting for a replacement under warranty.
There is some movement when the camera is connected to the GPS module but this appears to be common. There are a few YouTube videos on how to fix the issue.
I think Viofo is good value for money but next time I'll look for something with a larger screen and buttons.

  • I have one of these and the battery died after about a year. It's a good camera though, if someone could point me in the direction of a new battery for it that would be appreciated. EDIT No I don't, I have a Rexing V1, similar looking but not the same.

    • They don't have batteries?

Edit Doh! Didn't notice your edit.

  • Does anyone else price match?

  • For those who would prefer v3 of this dashcam, the promo code also works for that - $158 down to $128 (plus $9.99 delivery).
