Smart Delivery Next Generation Gaming

For me this is a bit of good news in a time when life is a little grim

I have had every Playstation but the new Xbox has a future that is the most consumer-Bargain friendly feature since the launch of Steam.
Smart Delivery – “Xbox Series X, Smart Delivery will seemingly ensure that you have the right version of a game, no matter which Xbox console you’ve bought it on. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will make use of Smart Delivery and will offer those who own Cyberpunk on Xbox One the ability to upgrade to the Xbox Series X version for free. In addition, the company has revealed that, while Cyberpunk will be available on Xbox Series X "from the get-go", a "proper, full-blown next-gen" version of the game will come at a later date. This is apparently the upgrade the developer was referring to.”

This is a giant win for consumers if you have an Xbox one game it should be ‘forward compatible” with the next generation console.

I know not every game developer is embracing this change ie EA seem to be a bit sheepish to embrace this.

Overall this is a great step for gamers mean you only need to buy a game once to play it at the best version – I hope PS5 has the same feature as I would love to replay FF7 on a next generation console without having to blow another 60-70$ on a copy of it.

Thought his deserved a thread I know there are other gamers out there and if this is all true then I have to say well done Microsoft!

Of course i added a Poll for you all with a simple question will you be buying the next generation Ps5 or Xbox Series X

I'll be buying a PS5 on day zero, or as close as possible to it.

  • +2

I'll be waiting for the revised model that doesn't have Day 1 issues

  • The forward compatible games have to be created by the game developer. I doubt all games would be automatically forward compatible.

    • Im assuming you didnt actually read the post just based on your comment ….i did say not all developers are embracing it

However i suspect if enough of them do it will pressure everyone to follow suit

      • I was more saying this feature would be on a per-game basis.

Games that are released in the transition from one generation to the next would be the likely candidates. At least you wouldn't need to buy those games twice. Is this what you are referring to?

        • yeah exactly what im happy about im hoping playstation follow suit

  • People still buy multiple copies of the same game. Skyrim, GTA5 and Fifa are some classic examples of this. Why would they limit their customer base and potential for revenue from those that will and do spend freely?

This news is speculation, and wont happen for every game.

    Get your pre-orders in folks.

    • Thats exactly why it is great for the consumer - i have purchased GTA5 on PS3 and PS4 as an example

  • What's stopping Microsoft from adding Windows to their consoles?

    • more money keeping them separate?

I currently don't own a ps4 and it is SO hard to wait for the ps5 to come out. Plus the ps4 prices right now are just ridiculous, they are all pretty much selling at launch prices which were 3-4 years ago. Great news from CD projekt red… props to them, I will always support them.

  • Apparently, Both Next Gen consoles will be backwards compatible with a lot of games if not most of them.
