Credit Card Rewards Points for Travel, Airline Frequent Flyer Cards: getting the most out of them

With our Commbank Diamond rewards card expenditure over 10 years, we earn 2 flights to Europe free via reward points. We pay for flights to NZ or SE Asia every 2 years or so. We get the cheapest flights available. I have a Qantas frequent flyer card but haven't used it much. Apart from that no other flights. Should I be doing anything more to maximise travel benefits?

Now isn't a really good time to travel unless it's urgent.

    • Not travelling yet. Just setting things up to get the best deals

  • I'm sitting on mine and recommend doing the same. Nothing much else you can do in this situation. You can spend points at the qantas store or whichever rewards store you have but the dollar return on those is much less than flights.

I collected Amex reward points for years and then one day Amex decided to halve the value of the points. Not wanting my points to halve in value I decided to transfer them to Velocity. The rest is history.

I'm done with credit card points.

    • Ouch. If it's any consolation I decided to funnel all my card points over the years into Velocity. I counted the value of everything linked to Velocity is worth around $10k and that's before whatever happens next =(

  • No one knows how travel and credit cards will change in the near future.

Have you read the credit card wiki? There are too many products to even try to give a recommendation.

What do you want out of the card? Flyer points? Gift cards? A toaster? Lol

  • Travel- either use points at an agent for fliights, or directly via flyer points
