No VoLTE on Boost Mobile for Redmi Note 5 Pro (Xiaomi) Handset

Hello. I'm having a Redmi Note 5 Pro (Xiaomi) Mobile. It supports VoLTE. However, I do not get VoLTE option or symbol while using my Boost Prepaid. Others have confirmed they do get it. I myself have read in this forum that Xiaomi Mi A1 users do get the VoLTE option.

I know that support for VoLTE is dependent on an Operator + Handset combination. Could anyone tell if I would be able to get VoLTE on my handset with Boost?

Thanks in advance :-)

    Type

    ##86583##

into the dialer and it should say something like "Volte Carrier check disabled"

    Type

    ##869434## for VoWifi

I have a mi 9t pro and have to do this every time I factory reset my phone

    include the hash and asterisk

edit: I didn't realise it would delete the asterisks in between the hash signs.

I'm not sure how to include the asterisk. But if this helps there is an asterisk between each hash sign, as well as at the beginning and after before and after the first and last hash sign respectively.

Although there is no asterisk before the numbers

    I hope this makes sense

    • *#*#86583#*#*

Indent to make a code block :)

  • You also may need to call boost to get them to enable volte

    • VoLTE was enabled randomly by Boost for me a few days ago on my Mi9T
I'd done the Dialler stuff already, but couldn't be arsed to call to get it enabled.

    Thanks. After dialing * # * # 86583 # * # *
I do see the VoLTE setting now in SIM Card Settings . Its turned to ON but still I do not get VoLTE symbol at the top. Would I need to call Boost and ask them to activate it?

      Restart maybe?

I've never had to call boost about my issue just type in the code and activated it from the settings and everything was fine. Try making a call and see if you see the "HD" icon in the middle of screen during the call

        Tried restarting, doesn't help.
Tried making a call, network falls back to 3G during the call.
I anyway called up Boost Customer Care and they mentioned VoLTE is not activated on my account. No idea why.
After a series of questions to authenticate myself, they have placed the request to activate VoLTE on my number and told me it should be available within 4 hours. Earlier posts on this forum have indicated it appears about 1 hour after SIM is activated.
I have also been told to restart phone after 4 hours. So will try that too :)

I'm really not sure, do you know what ROM your phone is using? Are you global, or indian maybe chinese ROM?

I'm currently global and have heard that VoLTE doesn't work on EU ROM.

I hope it fixes itself in the next couple hours, I've usually just had to type in the numbers I told you and then it works like a switch

        • Let us know if your VoLTE got activated. RN5 Pro user here, I've done all this and see it still switches to 3G on calls. If your calling Boost helped, I'll be coaxed to do it.

          • @Skidro: I had called on 12-May around 5PM and was told it will be done in 4 hours. Now, at 1:30PM on 13-May it is still not done. I will be calling them again. To answer MrPariah's question too, I am on India ROM, running MIUI 11.0.3.0 on Android Pie (Official MIUI ROM).

I was just hoping I'd get VoLTE on my device, as others using Mi A1 which is an older phone have confirmed getting VoLTE on Telstra/Boost.

@Skidro which ROM are you on?

            • @djoz: MIUI Global 11.0.3 Stable. Same as yours, but Global Version.

        • Have you tried using another phone where volte is known working to see if it is a SIM issue or a boost issue?

  • Would I be right in saying Aldi mobile do not support VoLTE ? Notice my VoLTE setting is greyed out in sim settings.
    edit
    Found the answer
"You can use an ALDImobile SIM card in any handset so long as it is compatible with the 3G 850MHz frequency. If you have a 4G handset, please make sure that your phone is compatible with ALDImobile’s 3G frequency as voice over LTE (VoLTE) is not supported and calls will be made through 3G"

ALDI resell Telstra Wholesale, Boost Resell Telstra Retail.

I had the same issue with my Xiaomi Note 8T with Boost. Same SIM card worked perfectly in a Samsung A20 and gave VoLTE by default.

I did everything MrPariah and the internet said to no avail. Never bothered to call Boost as I wasn't that fussed whether I had it or not. Good luck.

    • Oh, so you dont have it yet? Try calling Boost post 5PM, generally you will get connected in a minute. Been 2 hours since I requested but still dont see VoLTE yet. Let see how it shapes up.

  • Ok, so I was kinda fearing this. On my third attempt to Boost Customer Care, I got them to check with Technical Support. Here is what they mentioned:

4G Bands supported by Redmi Note 5 Pro:
    B1 (2100 Mhz)
    B3 (1800 Mhz)
    B5 (850 Mhz)
    B40 (2300 Mhz)
    B41 (2500 Mhz)

4G Bands used by Boost (mentioned by Technical Support):
    B3 (1800 Mhz)
    B7 (2600 Mhz)
    B28 (700 Mhz)

    4G Bands used by Telstra:
    B1 (2100 Mhz)
    B3 (1800 Mhz)
    B7 (2600 Mhz)
    B8 (900 Mhz)
    B28 (700 Mhz)

As per Technical Support, the phone needs to have all bands used by Boost (B3, B7, B28) to be able to get VoLTE. Since I do not have B7, B28 on my phone, I wont be able to get VoLTE.

I went a step ahead and checked the Bands for Mi A1 as well. So Mi A1 does support B3, B7 but not B28. Kind of makes me conclude that Band B7 is what is needed in your phone to be able to use Boost/Telstea VoLTE. However, I am not sure about this because most sites are Band B3. Will see if I dig up some more information to solve this.

    • Likewise, I was told that VoLTE requires B28.

I'm not sure the other bands are required. Someone correct us though. The information seems to be all over the place.

      • Yes, I am still not able to find exactly which Band is a "must" for Telstra/Boost VoLTE to work on a Handset. I am even doubtful if it is dependent on the LTE Band, but that's what Boost Technical Support Advised. I tried searching the internet but cannot find a Band-to-VoLTE relation anywhere.

The only things I find are the "firmware" - which as always an operator mentions as to which Phones it supports. Xiaomi being a less popular brand in Australia, is not mentioned in supported phones anywhere. However, my pursuit to get this done is because others using Mi A1 are able to get VoLTE, and I am not on my Redmi Note 5 Pro.

I checked MrPariah's Handset (Mi 9T Pro) Specifications and he's got Bands: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40. So this handset has all bands required by Telstra, and so, VoLTE would certainly work (that is, if it's dependent on Band as mentioned by them).

Will continue my search to find out the reason. But looks like VoLTE wouldn't work on my phone, for now at least.
