Hi,
I am in the market for an affordable decent 75" tv and from viewing here, the R8 seemed to be the way to go.
I see on Harvey Norman, the S8 is listed.
Is this an updated model? Any thoughts on it?

Yes thank you for the passive aggressiveness. I know how Google works. As there are many people with deep knowledge about this subject here I thought it was a fair question to ask rather than relying on most content online about it which is straight from the Hisense media pack.
If you personally can't help OP then why comment?
S8 is nothing like the R8, going by the specs. R8 had quantum dot, Dolby Vision, 200MHz smooth motion, ultra local dimming (just fake PWM dimming really). S8 looks closer to the R6 - no quantum dot, no Dolby Vision, 100MHz smooth motion, direct lit (no local dimming).

Thanks!
To be honest if i was you i wouldn't even be looking at Hisense, i have a the 65" R8 and the Lip Sync Issue is driving me insane, nothing i do can fix it. If i were you i would look elsewhere or save a bit more and get a reputable brand. Just my 2 cents.
Some people are reporting that the K0416 update for the R8 has fixed the Lip Sync issue.
Is yours still doing it after this update?
@Cheequee: mine updated two days ago, still have the lip sync issue. Everything else about the TV is great, but i still regret buying it because lip sync is a basic function that i'm sure most other TV's get right.
Same with Tcl 65p8s. Solved using a sound bar and setting the sound output delay to 300ms.
@Ozbadge: how did you change the sound output delay ?
@giantxtc2joshua: There’s an option in advanced settings sound menu. Set the digital output to PCM and then an option pops up. Set the digital audio out delay to 200~300
isn't direct lit better than edge lit?
First time heard about this. I googled "PWM dimming" but not many people talking about it.
Which technology would be the true local dimming and which TVs have it?
Real local dimming is known as Full Array Local Dimming (FALD). The Hisense Q8 has it, as does the Samsung Q80T and above, and the Sony X9000H and above.
For those with lip sync issues. Can you ask for a refund on your TV?
s8 is budget tv ,its very basic, no FLAD, its edge lit, missing lot of good features, no quantum dot, no qled. atmos support? brightness is around 350 nits, ill wait for a q8 deal at least its decent specs like FALD and qled with quantom dot, better sound etc. better software too. new OS, hopefully better processor, still not enough info to determine
i keep reading the lip sync issues with these cheaper brands like hisense and tcl and honestly that would drive me insane, and if i have to fork out another 300 for a sound bar to fix the issue, hell i might spend that to increase my budget to get a top brand tv like samsung/lg/sony who seem to have a more polished end product. i really dont need the most high end tv, still spewing on skipping out the goody deals in december for the ru7100 which is probably the best tv for 1k, i saw it as low as 800 in dec for 65 inch, now the cheapest one is 1200. i trusted people kept leaving comments that it will be even cheaper in January. little did they know..
