    not sure about other stores

    • Mi amigo where U at

    • How much stock? Less than 10?

    Cheap landfill.

A 1280*800 screen, 8GB of storage, 1.5GB of ram, an operating system that's five versions out of date.

I guess this might be useful for some specific uses (home automation project or something for your young kid to destroy), but as a general purpose device it's terrible.

    • Plex / other media centre controller, to leave lying around in your lounge room?

    • If it was the same dimensions as the old Nexus 7 [2xDIN] then it'd be a good feasible Maps touchscreen

    • +3

should be fine for plex, youtube, netflix and web browsing, probably 99% of what i use my tablets for…

    • +4

I have one, it is terrible, the OS and other Samsung built-in software already occupied 7.xx GB of the storage.

    • I have and older and even lower spec model that I use just as a Spotify controller for the home stereo. For that $79 that is pretty good value as it does a good job.

    • TBH it'd still be a good replacement for an older broken screen tablet as an example a replacement screen for Tab S2 in similar timeframe would cost above $250? so it does serve some purpose, I think at $50 it would be a bargain, at $79 .. not so much but still cheaper than screen replacement. DYOR IMHO.

      • +1

With only 8GB it would be pretty close to unusable; it's no longer enough space for all the updates to the "essential" apps and without them most services (youtube, gmail, netflix etc.) stop functioning.

  • In every Aust Post store or specific to some? Thanks

These batteries are terrible. Maybe alright for like a clock or tv remote, but in a torch, controller or rc car they only last a few hours before they’re dead.
This is also the normal price for these batteries at the post office.

    • +2

      Agree. Terrible batteries. Similar experience

  • +3

meh, I at least go regular alkaline at a bare minimum.

  • Are these alkaline or zinc carbon?

    • -1

Carbob-zinc [:-p] so suitable for old-style torches, emergency radios ect. Their advantage is when they begin to fade, then resting them will allow a charge to build back up for emergency use if you're not in a postion to replace them right away. When rechargables and alkaline batteries discharge it's more like a water tank emptying with no bounce back.

      • +2

        Zinc carbon avoid!!

      • -1

There is nothing that makes a carbon zinc battery suitable for any kind of torch. They suck compared to alkaline batteries which suck in comparison to NIMH and Lithium primaries.

The "charge" (in fact voltage) recovering is also not a good thing (and completely pointless vs a battery that has a much larger charge in the first place), it is just a result of much they crap themselves when anything bigger than a tiny load is put on them.

  • +1

Use these in my xbox one controller for PC.. get about 8-10hrs of gameplay with this, always dump responsibly (drop off bins at battery world etc)

  • +10

Heavy Duty (aka Zinc-carbon) batteries have about a third of the energy storage of alkaline batteries, have a terrible shelf life, and perform poorly in high-drain devices.

They probably should be banned by government due to being a waste of resources.

As I can't see anything about them on the EverReady website. I'd say they're no longer being manufactured.

    • I've always thought they were a good match for our random clocks and remotes. Is this not the case?

      • +1

I find that spent alkaline batteries do the job just as well, but I switched to rechargeable a long time ago

the tabs might be good for my clients we provide aged and disability care for.

    Thanks OP

This tablet is so frustratingly slow

  • +6

30 alkalines for $10 at Bunnings is better than 50 carbon batteries for $10.

  • 8gb ouch that's beans

    • +1
      • That doesn't help, the built-in apps wouldn't support relocating to SD.

    • +1

      8gb ram is perfectly fine..oh…

  • hi OP is there a way to check which stores still have the tablet?

  • +1

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/samsung-galaxy-tab-a-7-0-34-…

$99 at bigw. No spectacular bargains to be found here fellas

    • Agreed. There was a $2 tablet from JB hifi recently… That was a bargain

  • android 5.1 eek
this model was hot when John Howard was PM of the country

  • Does anyone know what the model number is? Is there any custom roms available for it?
Edit: It looks like it's the SM-T280 can someone confirm?

  • Can I use this tablet for Zoom video conference?

    • No this tablet does not have the correct 4g network attenuation modulator firmware. It comes with 1.69.420 only

  • Anyone know if there's a lineage OS build for this tablet?
