Nespresso-compatible coffee pods don't work in my machine

A few months ago I bought 3x50 bags of coffee pods (Primo brand) and got some cheap Nespresso-compatible coffee machine as a free gift.

Now I'm running low on coffee pods and yesterday I purchased a pack of Vittoria pods with "Nespresso compatible" on the box.
These pods look the same as Primo, except they have lots of small holes at the bottom. But they don't work in my machine - it makes a lot of noise and steam, but no coffee comes out.
What's the matter? Is it not producing enough pressure? Are there any other brands of coffee pods I can buy in Coles/Woolies that will work with my cheap machine?

    • Oh, I didn't expect that from Vittoria. Why are they selling this crap?
I will try another brand, thanks!

You could buy a better quality machine, or better quality pods.

      It's against the Ozbargain spirit!

I'd suggest that having a pack of Vittoria pods that you can't get coffee out of is a waste of money, which is more against the OzB spirit.

  • I use Vittoria pods in my Nespresso Creatista machine and the only issue I have is that they need a lot more pressure on the lever than other Nespresso compatible pods to pierce them.

Vittoria isn't the best coffee anyway IMO.

LOR, Moccona, and LavAzza pods, amongst other brands sold by Colesworth, should work OK. If not there may be an issue with your machine.

    • I also use the Vittoria pods in my Creatista.

What I find works is that I use my finger to push the pod down a bit more into the machine, as I think the issue is that the pod isn't lining up properly with the machine due to the slightly different shape.

    • Despite the fact I'm not a fan of starbucks coffee I tried a pack of their pods as part of a flybuys promo and was impressed.

Just like others have said i have tried them and they would never pierce the film. I find the Lor ones the best

Try getting the aluminium pods (L'or, starbucks, mocconna, etc) as they replicate the nespresso branded ones. plastic ones are sometimes too strong at the bottom and to soft on the side so they crush instead of pierce.

    • Yeah, I noticed that my machine can't pierce the plastic at the bottom. There is a bunch of tiny pre-pierced holes, but I'm guessing they are too small and my machine can't push water through them.

      • i think it may also be very picky in where the plastic dimples are placed. the machines have 3 piercing points but if they dont line up perfectly they wont pierce. you can usually get some sort of aluminium based pod for cheap, even if that means resorting to the coles cafe series.

can't pierce the plastic at the bottom

Get a toothbrush and clean the pins etc, might help. But as above, the aluminium pods are the best to get
