Thoughts on this CPU, MoBo & RAM bundle?

Hi guys,

With the current pricing on everything pc atm what are your thoughts on this bundle? I know its not the greatest bargain but i feel its pretty competitive.

https://www.scorptec.com.au/bundle/CPU/AMD-Socket-AM4/734-36…

Im looking to upgrade current build to something half decent but affordable.

Pairing with the gtx 1070.

Cheers in advance.

Latest info from AMD is the B450/X470 chipsets won't support the nextgen Ryzen coming out later this year. So I'd suggest to keep your upgrade options open you get a B550/X570 motherboard instead.

  • You could get a X570 board as 4foxache has said above, could easily do it for $100 more, but honestly I wouldn't bother. I wouldn't do a CPU upgrade for 1 generation upgrade, I would wait for 2 or 3. I went from a i5-2500k to a 3600X, so that was an even bigger jump. And you don't know if AMD will be using the AM4 socket after the next gen, so don't worry about it too much.

    • Its economical on an AMD platform to do generational upgrades… I just went from 2600 to 3600X and got myself about 20% extra performance for not much. Sold my 2600 for about the same price I bought it for in 2018 partly because the AU was a lot stronger then. If your Intel then no not worth it because every new CPU is a new M/B.

      • I suppose it depends on what you call economical. I see going from a 2600 to a 3600X as a 20% performance upgrade for over a 100% extra cost (3600X would have cost more than what you paid for the 2600).

        • Not when I paid $208 for the 2600 and sold it for $200 cash, thereby the upgrade didn't really cost me anything. As long as I can resell the 3600X for at least $146 I'm in the same position as bought it for $346.

          • @4foxache: HAHA, that's funny. It's amazing how much idiots will pay for second hand computer parts.

I've seen parts listed on eBay WITH BIDS, for more than I can buy them from Umart or MSY for. This is what happens when idiots think you can only buy computers from Harvey Norman and JB etc.

Well power to you mate. I tend to keep old parts and make spare computers for my nieces and nephews.

            • @AdosHouse: Yeah, you boys should see eBay atm…around 10-20% more expensive.

@veitchy02: That's the shops too, the Aussie dollar has crapped itself.

  • The current recommendation for half decent but affordable is B450. X470 is kind of a dead end if it won't support upgrade options so you may as well go B450 if you are looking for value for money right now*. If you do care about upgrade options then wait for the B550.

*Unless this bundle is super discounted (I haven't compared vs unbundled pricing)

  • Cheers, either way the B550 isn't far off. I think I'll wait to then and see what it does to the market
