Is there a brand or model that's preferable for these sort of mixers? I'm on the look out for something decent that will last.
Any design that retracts and has to resist the weight of a hose with a ring of rapidly degrading rubber is sure to fail.
Get something that has a mechanic holder. Anything but the ridiculously fail engineering of the design above.

This is how my youngest brother came to be.
By "mechanic holder" do you mean the spring ones?
@DonWilson: I mean something that you can slot back into place. Even springs fatigue albeit at a significantly lower rate than rubber.
@[Deactivated]: Don't they all slot back into place? Could you link one with a pic?
-edit- saw your link below. The ones with the arm. Gotcha.
@[Deactivated]: These don't have a weight on the hose under the unit to draw the hose and head back into the holder and keep it there?
@rodericb: Nope because the hose doesn't retract. The hose is fixed length, the Swan neck is flexible.
@rodericb: Hi Rodericb. I'm not sure what tshow is on about here which is why I was trying to get clarification from him but he then just went quiet. He seems to be getting all defensive about a detail that really makes no difference to this type of product… and yes, the Dorf Vixen DOES in fact have a retractable hose and a weight as seen in its installation instructions So yes, I can now confirm this is basically identical to our IKEA unit which has been working perfectly for 2+ years so I'm not sure what tshows issue is.
That's odd Tshow, care to elaborate? I fitted a cheap & cheerful IKEA retracting mixer which seems to be very similar if not identical to this Dorf and it's been perfect for over 2 years!
@SteveAndBelle: I don't think I can elaborate further but here goes.
There is a hose that's fairly rigid and gravity is also working against retention.
The only thing that retains the hose from prolapsing is a rubber band. With every passing day it gets more brittle and stretched, with every use it gets worn out.
From an engineering perspective, it is a fail. You have every force trying to resist the holstered position and the only thing preventing it from falling off degrades.
@[Deactivated]: Yeah OK. I completely understand what you're saying however on our IKEA unit the rubber O-ring is really just there to stop the nozzle from rattling around once it's parked back in the fitting. If I removed the O-ring the unit would still operate perfectly. The adjustable hose weight mounted below the bench is the mechanism that does all the work in the case of the IKEA unit so maybe others are different? Not sure but again our cheapie IKEA version (which I originally didn't hold much hope for) has been working flawlessly for over 2 years.
Oliveri
Oliveri actually doesn't make their own taps so they actually do stock those crap designed ones too.
I went with this one.
The nozzle slots into place from the top down.
@[Deactivated]: Aldi had one with similar design for sale last year for around $80, nozzle held in place by magnet
@lgacb08: Magnets weaken over time.
There's something to be said with physical macro retention.
What is @199 Harvey?
Only 4 WELS stars
Bargain! Got one for the man shed, outdoor bbq sink and kitchen sink
wow you got 3
Anything I've purchased for plumbing from a department store / harvey or bunnings has ended up being awful, switched to buying from reece, not only was everything cheaper but its standing up way better over time.
Are you sure Reece is cheaper? Everything is overpriced in general imo.
Get ready for all the posts about warranty when people realise the nozzle doesn't stay in the fixture after a few months.
