As long as you have a plug then it is fine. Could sell it on Gumtree or give to one of your friends/family who have a bbq as a spare. Could also ask neighbours if they want it. Otherwise take to one of the swap and go servoes and leave it with them.
You are then looking at carrying it till you find a place to dump or dig your backyard and carve a RIP stone…
In that case, just cut it in half with an angle grinder and put it in the bin.
Put it out on your nature strip, it'll be gone within a few minutes.
If not put a 'For Sale $10' sign on it, it'll be gone in seconds.

Put it up for free on FB marketplace. Or if you really don't want it in your car, just bin it

Solved.if it's in date sell it on gumtree, if out of date give it away on gumtree. people make stuff from them (who know what they're doing, don't try it yourself!)
Common project is to make a compressed air tank.
Is the bottle expired for you to be concerned about not travelling with it? What size is it?
Council is best option for disposing due to explosive nature of the thing (unless you remove the valve to release it's pressure).
Drop it at any swap and go place, they'll take them for free normally or put them out the front or put it on gumtree/facebook market place for free pickup only.
