Furniture Best buy on budget with Quality

Hi fellow ozBargainers, we just bought our first home (Yeh.. not a great time but stuck in pre-Corona contract).
Now we are looking for ways to get some furnitures especially for lounge and 2 bedrooms on budget (but with decent quality especially for couches)

Just looking for some experience, should we go for big stores like freedom/Amart or local warehouses? Are the support and quality good for local warehouses/vendors.

p.s. We have no restoration experience and we are based in Melbourne.

Appreciate some suggestions. Looking to utilize EOFY deals.

Second hand stuff on gumtree, there will be good stuff for 10% or rrp. The mark up on furniture is insane.

  • I found some well priced mattresses and bed frames on eBay from two stores zzzatelier and zinus. IIRC, it was about $500 for a queen bed and base delivered which seems reasonable.

  • yeah i just bought some from zzz atelier theres 10% off now

  • Amart has reduced to clear section in store that is worth looking at - furniture with minor marks and negligible damage that has been marked down heavily.

  • I wouldn't touch Amart with a barge pole.

When we got our first house we bought stuff from them, terrible quality, got rid of it after about 2 years? It was literally falling apart.

Ikea has been good for us for normal furniture, if you are handy at flat pack it is a decent option, just remember to tighten everything about 3-4 weeks after you put it together. I have Ikea stuff that looks perfect from when I bought it for my first place in 2012?

Bought a King sofa, not a fan, one side had the bottom sag and they wouldn't bother to come out. Been buying Plush, pretty ok with it.

Freedom seems ok, however do note that they have been having issues with their new logistics system, after our order was pushed out for the second time and they didn't know when it would come we cancelled for a full refund.

    • Totally agree. Amart furniture is absolute rubbish. Definitely have a look at IKEA furniture, new or second hand.
